Trans Temp Gauge
 

Id like to get my trans temp gauge installed prior to the car hitting the rollers just so i know precisely what temp it cooks itself. Running an electrical gauge so all i need to do is find a spot to run the sender. However i can pick which would be best.

Those of you that are running one, which did you go with and why?

1. Weld bung into pan. I wouldnt mind this, but i would end up buying a spare pan and just waiting till it was trans fluid swap time. I dont want to waste everything i just filled up.

2. Test port on side of trans, right above shift linkage. Can i get an accurate reading up there?

3. Tap into the trans cooler supply line (between trans output and cooler input)

The PCM already has a trans temp sensor, when HPTuners is hooked up you can read the temp. When your on the rollers I’m sure they will have the temp warmed up properly. If you wanna gauge for daily use then my vote is in the pan.

I ran mine in the pressure port for awhile when I was rocking the 60e.

Treat it like any other gauge on the cluster, its a go/no go and not for real data numbers.

Drive around with HPT and get a good feel for pan temps compared to the pressure port numbers, then when you are comfortable with how the pan to port relationship is, ditch the laptop.

Biggest thing is to get a solid reference to OAT and ATF temps, and establish, "normal", then just check is everything is good to go.

I used the test port when i put one in my 01 silvy. I know i couldve switched clusters but rather not mess with the odometer.

I know it wasnt accurate but basically showed me while towing when it was getting hot and cooling down
