Parts is parts?

Just had the pleasure of replacing an alternator in the R/T that was a brand new Bosch unit purchased about 6 months ago. I put another brand new Bosch in and hope it works better. And last Thursday I had to use a rebuilt Auto Zone starter in my Cavalier because I was broke down at work and that was the easiest one to get. And it's already acting up. I'm going to see if I can get my money back so I can buy a new Delco unit for it.

See if there is anyone local to you that rebuild alternators/ starters etc... Someone who is not a big box store

I had to replace 2 "rebuilt" Advanced Auto Alternator's in my focus. Lifetime warranty, so after the 2nd time I had to replace it, I got all my money back. Went on RockAuto and got a NEW alternator. Let's see how well this goes.

Ha, one year we in MD at the camaro nationals and after like 15 years BTK lost the alternator in his 79. Local AZ had one. 40 miles later on the way home it crapped out. Luckily we found another AZ with one on the way home.

I got 10 years/25k miles out of my napa gold when it crapped out in MD at the same show last year. Napa around the corner had one. This year the exact same thing happened. At least I got a year and like 4000 milers out of it.

When the OE Honda one dies in our old pilot this spring I didn't even bother. I got a brand new denso (exact same as the OE Honda).

I think the advanced auto PS pump for my truck lasted less than 30 hours?

LS1ow 10-02-2017 08:35 AM

There is a place in rutherford, not to far from your job, called "Davis Carb & Electric" They rebuilt generators and what not. Im pretty sure my dad had my LT1 alternator rebuilt.

If you do head there, make sure you stop at the Park Tavern across the street for a pie

Bob, they're even called Central Jersey so you know they have to be good.

PolarBear 10-02-2017 10:24 AM

I dunno, South Amboy may not be "Central" Jersey

Yup. Its the on the spot parts that keep biting us. Oh yea, i forgot the chinesium acell HEI i had to buy for the Z when the 30 year old one decided to expire on the track at NJMP. That one lasted, oh, one day before the **** connectors showed their true colors, and 2000 miles before the coil crapped out. I Frankensteined it and now it works fine.

You'd think the $400 MSD billet HEI I bought would be better, but nooooooooooooooo. Now I have a nice Davis HEI.

fuel pumps are my kryptonite, but ive also had a tone of DOA coils too.

I've been doing Amazon/rock auto. They are close together in prices and I've had way better luck. I use AutoZone for stuff I need ASAP, like fluids or drain pans

KevinW 10-03-2017 06:14 AM

I had the 69 alts rebuilt and upgraded to 100A and had my original 2004 alt rebuilt at Edison Generator on rt1, great service!

I used them to rebuild a antique starter and generator. Also used them for a older ford starter and no problems. They do good work. Prices where reasonable.

unstable bob gable 10-03-2017 02:19 PM

Talked to a guy at Auto Zone, said I can return the starter for a refund. Just have to get the starter out. Hopefully it can wait until the weekend.

bigz28man 10-04-2017 11:45 AM

I remember a place in brick...brick starter and alternator right on 88. I never had problems with anything coming out of there
