!Moldings and Badges

awhile ago i read a few threads about taking the moldings and badges off and was thinkin about doing it. a few days ago i decided to take the badges off and then in one of the threads i saw NZBaller's car (exactly like mine but i dont have the ws6 hood) and i was like hell why not go all out and do it??

i started yesterday and the molding and badges itself came off pretty easy... the glue was another story.... i did the passenger side with fishing line and and used my fingers to get the adhesive off which hurts after awhile. i tried to use goo gone which didnt really do a damn thing. then i remembered one of the guys said use a hairdryer to heat it up, that didnt really do anything either. the grey molding tape wasnt that hard to take off it just took awhile, the black stuff that held on the badge was a bitch and a half to get off.

so today i went to pep boys and got some 3M ashesive remover which was recommended by the guys there. worked like a charm. w/o the remover it took me like 2 hours to get the molding/adhesive and the badge off. with the remover it took maybe 30 mins to an hour to get it off (i had a friend help me with the adhesive) whats funny is the molding/badge is so soft i was cutting through it with the fishing line by accident

i forgot to take pics of it today, ill prolly have them up on monday or so...

completely different (but the same) car, the only thing thats different is the lack of options, its not a factory w68, and the interrior is grey (looks tan since its sun faded)

this is nzballer05's car from FTV6 but this is exactly what my car looks like now (well except for the ws6 hood)

Just curious, why take the badges off?

Brando56894 07-20-2006 04:36 PM

theyre a pain in the ass to get wax outta them and it just looks better IMO

if you know how to wax its not a problem...never had an issue.

i always had wax stuck in the firebird badges and it took forever to get it out. my dad gave me a good idea.... use a toothbrush :)

Good going...I think all 4th gens should shave their moldings. It looks 100% better.

i wasnt gonna do it, then i was like maybe just the badges, then i was like hell ill do all of it when i saw nick's (nzballer05) car. i just waxed her like 2 days ago, it was soo much easier

I want to !moldings but I shoulda done that before paint because now it wont look right...

Brando56894 07-31-2006 12:26 AM

:werd:

it would of looked bad even before you painted your car cuz the paint that was exposed was most likely sun faded since its +/- 20 years old but the paint under the molding would look brand new
