GM Nationals @ Carlisle June 18th-19th

Just thought I'ed post this as it is a bit of a haul to get to. It's almost 3 hours (167 miles) to get there (from central Jersey) with a $40.00 2-day pass entry. All the awards are done by peer judging on over 82 acres. If your out in the boonies, getting food-drink or bathrooms is far out. I don't understand the 2 day event, because some of us do not have the $$$$ for a motel and the food. There is a FULLY JUDGED class called the Excellence of Standards. It is a team of judges that go over your car with a fine tooth comb. It is not judged against other cars, but how it should look if it was original stock, modified or custom. If modified, how does the installation look, or are the parts or options rare. Seems like a really tough class, but you'll learn what to improve on IF your a show car person. One small problem, it's $75.00 and is limited to the first 50 cars that pay up. This in addition to the fact this a Rain or Shine event.:-?

My father and I usually go for a day, probably Friday :)

And if it rains ahead of the event, the whole place will be muddy and those hills will be tough to climb!

I used to sell there in the 80s :)

I just spoke to the Director of the Event and he told me that last year the entire Saturday show was a failure. He said it was POURING RAIN from 7:00am until 2:00pm, with many small bridges flooded from the 3 1/2" of rain. Sunday was just a mud field.

I would like to go for the Standard of Excellence judging, which is a pinpoint class to examine the smallest details. Of course it comes at a PRICE, which is $75.00. You will not get your score OR award until Sunday. If you don't go back Sunday, they did mail your award to you (in the past). NOW the cost is $20.00. ADD that to the price of admission-tolls-gas-3 hours one way-and food. The condition of the infield could be another factor (Mud or Dust) depending on the weather conditions during the past week. It's a nice sounding event, GM NATIONALS, but WAAAAAY TOO many factors could make this a high cost waste of time! Just my :2cents:

Why not go and avoid the high $ judging trophy class? I know the show scene is your gig but never hurts to just take the car out without an intent of winning a trophy. It's a good ride but maybe take a camera and take pics along the way/at the event.

Yeah, I hear you, but it's still $40.00 to get in the gate. It also comes down to the area you may have to park in. I really have a pair of crap knee joints (which happens to slightly older guys like you and me:kneeslap:) so just trying to walk around is a burden. For you younger guys, just DON'T GET OLD!

I was there last year. Definitely was a good event with hundreds of cool cars. Saturday there was crazy rain all day long and it made the fields a mess for Sunday. Had my car inside building Y as part of the IROC-Z display all weekend. Met a ton of cool people there too. It is a bit of a drive but I did not mind it at all. I don't think I can make it this year due to my work schedule though. Here is a link to the photos I took:

Definitely try to go if you can find the time

Thanks for sharing! Awesome collection of photos. It doesn't look too crowded. What days were those pictures taken, as the infield looks in pretty good condition. Burn out contest was crazy.
