Battery Disconnect Switch Install

Let me first start off by saying thanks for all the help and sorry if this is a repeat question, I have done searches but cant find anything. Here my question.

I have a 86 Camaro and no longer have the GM Harness. My car has painless switch panel. I am installing Flaming River Big Switch with Lever Kit. Now on the one stud I am going to run from the Battery (pos) and on the other stud I was going run from the stud to the starter, also connect my Ign. wire to that stud too.

I run a wire from my alt to the starter.

Will this work? Car is strictly drag car.

No, you need the alternator to always be connected to battery.

So starter to kill side of switch, 1/0 gauge wire. Alternator to either battery positive or non kill side of switch, I used 1/0 as well for that.

Any accessory should be powered off the starter stud, or the kill side of the switch.

LT- This is how my set up was before switch panel,I run my battery cable to the starter than on that same stud I run a cable from alt to starter stud. Thanks for reply.

Yup, Matt is correct here. If your kill switch has 2 studs, one stud will have the battery and alternator together and the other stud will have your starter lead. Then, you use the starter post to feed your harness/fuse box/switch panel/etc. You can buy bulk 1/0 gauge wire off of ebay, I believe I got a 50 foot roll of high quality stereo wire off of ebay and used it for both my power leads and my grounds. You should ground the motor and battery to the same structure of the car. Some choose to run two motor grounds even.

The way you stated you would wire the switch, the car will continue to run off of the alternator power. Think of it like this, the battery provides the starting power and the alternator provides the running power.
