11.43@117

So I haven't been on here in a while but figured I'd stop in and give an update on my setup. Car is a 00 SS, with a LQ9, TSP stage 4 cam, stock LS3 heads/intake, Circle D stall, 3.42 gear. Breakdown of the pass:

60'- 1.523
1/8- 7.246
1/8 mph- 93.77
1/4- 11.43
1/4 mph- 117.31

The car also went 11.44,.45,.46.48 on higher 1.5x 60's. Times were done on a 26" slick with fullsize tires upfront. I also tuned off torque management on the trans and didn't pickup any ET but saw mph rise by .5mph. I plan on throwing on skinnies and getting the launch dialed in and running somewhere in the 11.2x range before the end of the year.

Not bad man, what's the car weight and suspension?

NJ346 09-26-2016 10:27 AM

Car is pretty much full weight. Only thing gone is the AC compressor/condenser and the front sway bar. Suspension wise the only thing done to the car is a panhard bar, LCA's, LCA relocation brackets, and summit 3 way adjustable drag shocks. I think the slicks really help with the lack of suspension done to the car. I have weld in subframe connectors ready to go on the car, but trying to decide if that's unnecessary weight at this point.

Good stuff, Vin! She's super consistent! Glad you popped your head back in :wavey:

Nice 60's. Did you dead hook every pass on those 26"ers?

3.4 grape of wrath 09-29-2016 06:29 PM

Nice times.Where did you run your car at?

Jersey Mike 09-29-2016 07:55 PM

Milan, in Michigan  he moved out there but can't leave the club behind

Did a 1 hop on every pass besides the pass the car went a 1.52 on. Pretty sure I was running too much air in them(16.5psi hot). These Hoosier slicks don't disappoint at all. The car has a Circle D 5C stall which is a 4-4200rpm stall so I brake stall until the car pushes through the brakes(about ~2800rpm). Times were ran at Milan,Mi. DA at the times on the runs were around 1500 ft.

I have a brand new set of sub frame connectors in the garage which I haven't installed either. My plan is to get into the 11's and then install them when I retire the car to street use only. Seems like they would only cause a weight penalty if installed.

Did you try without foot braking?

I've probably taken the car down the track 30-40 times now and only ever tried leaving just off idle once. The exhaust is tucked very close to the floor boards so I have a fear of picking up small knock on a launch like that. I may try before the end of the year. If I have the time I may convert the car to e85 before my next outing to make sure I'll get the 11.2x I'm looking for.

sweetbmxrider 09-30-2016 07:50 AM

Got ya. It varies with converters. Some like to be foot braked as high as you can, some like just a little rpm off idle, and some like idle flash.

NJ Torque 09-30-2016 08:20 AM

Cool! Glad to see you out there.

NJ346 10-22-2016 07:54 PM

made it back to the track today with DA hovering around 0 and skinnies on the car. It went 11.19@119.97mph on a 1.51 60'. I almost wish it didn't go that fast because now I'm itching for 10s.

flying.
are the LS3 heads and intake a direct bolt on? no mods needed? which tbody?
how do LS3 heads and intake (whats the intake from? ) compare to something like ported stock heads 241's and a fast 92mm intake?

LS3 heads can fit anything with a 4.0" bore can accept LS3 heads, meaning a LS1 cannot use LS3 heads.

A LS3 intake is from a corvette/Camaro with a LS3 motor.

The Throttle body must be a 90MM, as the opening on a LS3/L98 is a a 90 MM opening. The throttle bodies that come on those cars are drive by wire, you need a cable TB for your bird, Nick Williams, FAST/Bluemax make units that work.

I'm running an ebay 90mm TB and stock LS3 intake and manifold. Flow numbers on a stock 823 casting LS3 head is comparable to most decent aftermarket ls1 heads so if you have a 4" bore, it's pretty much a no brainer to run to a LS3 casting. I bought the heads and intake manifold for $800 total. I sold my old cathedral ported Fast 90 for $700 so I pretty much switched to a LS3 setup for free.

Update on the car, it went 11.10 @ 121mph on a 1.48 60' last weekend. I found the limitation of the stock torque arm and bought a chassis mounted one this past week only to find out that one of the mounts on the floorboard of the car was cutout by the previous owner. I couldn't find anyone local in time to weld in a new mount so that's it for the season. The car definitely would have went 10's on the stock 10 bolt. Pretty sure the N/A record for a 10 bolt is like 1.45 so I was knocking on the door of that as well. The car is getting a viper spec'd 6spd this winter and maybe a rear before next season. I don't expect the car to go 10's for a while now.

Amazing
Why are u switching to manual trans?

NJ346 11-12-2016 01:56 PM

^ A buddy of mine was selling it and I got the trans for a pretty good deal. Also, I'd like to start getting into autocrossing.
