Has the engine been checked to ensure that it's good since the cam lobe was wiped?

I havnt pulled anything but the valve covers. It wasnt making any noises. It still runs, it just back fires when you give it any gas because the exhaust gasses dont have anywhere else to go in the number 7 cylinder, so they just come back up through the carb. I didnt even get a chance to lay into the pedal. Im certain that the motor is still good. Its pretty much brand new. I could still see the cross hatches in the bore when I had the heads off. The cam was only in it for 20 miles at most. I drove it one time.

It also still has around 40 psi oil pressure at idle
