Media blast cabinet
 

Anyone interested in buying my HF media blast cabinet? I am going to build a wet blast cabinet and I don't have room for more than one cabinet.
I spent some money on "upgrading" this one to get it to work better. I had to buy a new gun since the one that came with it sucked. I also bought a foot pedal for operating. I put a media vibrator on the hopper. I have some red garnet that is still usable that can go with it. I have some additional nozzles and window tear offs to go with it.

I am not sure what to ask, or I would have put it in the other sale section. I would like to see it go to someone that is going to use it. I am not looking to get rich from it, open to trades too.

Also open for discussion about blasting.

I'm interested. I've been debating on getting one. The pot blaster is too much work for small parts

This has been pretty good for small/medium sized parts. I am just tired of the dust it brings with it, and I want a bigger cabinet.
Let me know what you want to do. I am not in a big hurry one way or the other. I probably won't start building the new cabinet until summer

Used the HF pot blaster with glass beads on an aluminum dirtbike frame and engine. Came out fantastic, highly recommend.

What media would you use for the under side of a vehicle? I plan to do the Camaro in the next couple months. Price is key here, I'd rather not spend time trying to reuse any media.

If you don't want to bother re-using media I would just stick with sand since it's cheap, works well and easy to get. I like using the red garnet because it cuts fast in the cabinet, but it is a little more difficult to get, more expensive and it doesn't come in large quantities like sand (not that I have found really). My cousin gave me a siphon blaster. I was going to use sand in it. He didn't like it because the sand didn't feed well because it was wet. I was planning on putting the sand on the stove or in the oven to cook the water out of it before I used it. I also have a sifting screen so it would be easy to re-use

What sand do you use and where do you get it local? I've heard play sand but the grain size isn't uniform so I thought there were feeding issues.

Sand might be a bit heavy for the oven. If you have a dehumidifier you can put the sand next to it for a few days or a week. It will slowly pull most of the moisture out.


If you want to get rid of the sand, bring it tomorrow. Jackson is 83.5% sand anyway, dump it in the woods behind my house.

I've never used sand. Just glass and the red garnet.

The weight isn't a problem since it is a garage oven for projects, lol

play sand dust and such is quite bad for you to breathe. Silica and all. I'm still going through my supply of black beauty. That reminds me. my mask needs new filters.

Bear, i might be interested. I think you have an upgraded version of what i have. You dont run any sort of vacuum setup with it? I dont really like my box too much, but i make it work. Mine has a flat bottom, i hate that.

I use the shop vac with it. I bought a dust collector to use, but I never got around to hooking that up. I would clog the vacuum filter after a few hours of blasting. The Dust Deputy is supposed to work pretty good to drop the heavy particles out of the air before going into the vacuum

After the conversation here years ago about the dangers of sand blasting I would never use sand without some sort of respirator or way to control the dust created. This is part of the reason I am going to build a vapor blasting cabinet

I have one of those, works well with saw dust.

What is saw dust good for as a blasting media?

I have a large vacuum hose for the shop vac if anybody needs it. I bought it a long time ago to use with the blast cabinet I had but sold the cabinet before I used it. I think it measures around 2-1/8" diameter and it fits the shop vac.

I also have a fine dust filter for the shop vac that has never been used.

Mainly opening up pores before applying exfoliating products to the skin.

I use it with woodworking equipment 8-)

I have 2 HF cabinets, small one for glass beads (fine work), the other with coal slag (black beauty). I have the same floor cabinet as above and am in the process of doing the same upgrades (since the HF pickup tube and gun are crap). Hopefully it will work better when I get done.

Oh, no worries. You were specific, so I thought maybe you meant someone else. If you had called me some sort of profane name I would have understood it was directed to me :lol:

If you mean what gun did I get for the HF cabinet, I just got this gun and the foot pedal to operate it instead of the trigger style gun. It worked MUCH better after I got that setup compared to the crap that came with it.

If you mean my new gun for the vapor blaster it is this gun with the 5HP nozzle and tip. This can also be used for dry blasting, but you need a, minimum, 5HP compressor to be able to use it well or you will constantly be stopping to let your tank fill.

Yeah, but the gun that comes with it is junk. Now that I am into the vapor blasting there is a lot of engineering involved and the Chinese ***** just doesn't work properly because they put the wrong parts together. I probably have a few hundred hours blasting in that cabinet, the upgrade parts are worth it.

IMO if you're balking at the price you're probably not going to get the most use out of it anyway. You can suffer through slowly, or just have someone else do it since you'll be wasting so much time doing it yourself.
Watching the guy blast parts with the water it is SO MUCH FASTER than just the dry media, it would behoove you to just give it to the guy who can do it faster and you'll be ahead price wise in the end.

I am kind of hoping to do this as a side business once I am done with the cabinet. I should be able to get wheels in there and they won't take long, other big parts. and there is the benefit of "polishing" the parts with the vapor setup. It leaves a finer finish than the dry media. I got the 7.5HP nozzle and jet in addition to the 5HP, that makes it easier to polish, more media out the end and a larger surface to finish at one time.
