My 68 Convertible Project

Going to start posting pictures and updates here too as I have a project thread going on elsewhere...

This is the car coming home from it's former location in a barn where it resided for quite some time...

My project thread is here...

I'll start trying to keep updates posted here as well so I can share with my NJ Camaro people :)

Thanks for looking !!

On the note of fellow NJ Camaro guys... if anyone needs help out in the Warren County area with their project I'm up for it. I've got a lot of space, a lot of 2'nd gen parts, several garages, a 30x40 sandblast cabinet, a portable sandblaster, paint equipment, engine crane, tools, a good work truck for picking up parts (installing a bed crane in the truck now for moving engines and frames and other heavy stuff) plus I've got access to a real good industrial sandblast place that I take parts to each month (double up and save money) anyone need help with their project, hit me up. I'm close to Island Dragway so if you are planning a weekend trip there I'm about a mile away.

Welcome! Nice project.

bsharp2 04-14-2012 07:44 PM

Oh, too add to that by space I mean I have 11 acres so if you have that great parts car you want to pickup and can't put it at your place it can come here... especially if we can share parts... I've sectioned out and cut up whole cars here and have a scrap dealer that will take the leftovers (no questionable stuff of course, I only part out titled cars)

Thanks!! I've got a lot going on between this one and the other 2nd gen projects... hoping to find other local people to collaborate with :)

Nothing like trying to guess where the car will track when going into a curve :) Keeps you on your toes!

Hoping mine winds up somewhat non-twitchy... I've got all the stiffeners and cross-braces in place, all four cocktail shakers to go back in and reconditionining the entire suspension all the way around :)

Had some fun with the rear drums tonight... forgot how much fun they really are when you are out of practice... more details on my main thread but here are some pics :)

Thanks! Trying to make good progress even though I can only put in a few hours here and there :)

bsharp2 04-17-2012 09:52 PM

No significant updates tonight... working on cleaning up the garage where we are assembling the car and getting ready to setup for the metalwork on the floors. Time to shift gears a bit :)

Thanks again for your compliments! We are having fun and learning new stuff... makes it all good :)

Major accomplishment tonight... figured out how to get the damn thrust washer (that fell out during the rear restoration) back in...

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/...t/IMAG0886.jpg

The posi unit was in good shape and I replaced the outer axle bearings and seals, really did not want to pull the carrier, everything checked out for lash and play before I tore into it... was just about to put the c-clips back in after putting in the replacement axles and "clink" the washer fell out. Ironically there are a lot of people who reported online that this can happen but not many discussing how to get them back in other than voodoo and radical disassembly... turns out if you position things just right (and approach from the right side) they drop right back in. Whew

Little interruption of restoration activity today... getting my driveway/road graded/paved, etc... upper drive is gravel and main portion is 650' long down to the road... gonna be sweet when it's done tomorrow :)

Still got the rear closed up tonight... almost ready to go back in... gotta get fitting and welding on those floorpans !!

Driveway is done... too bad it's not flat, would make a good 1/8 mile track :)

I'll be posting info and pictures from the new engine shop I'm wokring with now shortly.. he was supposed to send progress photos but nothing yet... will follow up this weekend with a visit :)

Cause it's what the car came with? It's 100% number matching and original. Only change I'm making is three leaf swap outs for the monoleafs and front discs, this for safety. Yes, I'm putting the two barrel rochester back on too :)

Man when I was 17 I would have been flipping all kinda out for not slapping headers and a 4bbl and a cam in this thing... maturity has it's comforting moments :)
