1985 GN with 87 motor/trans

This is my 1985 GN that I have started years ago and I am starting to work on it again.

I painted the back portion under the tail lights.

Bought fiberglas fillers and I painted them, wet sanded and buffed them and polished the rear portion of the car. I also installed UMI upper and lower trail arms, Moroso trick springs, Comp. Engineering adjustable shocks, bigger solid rear sway bar and painted the underbody.

I took apart the tail lights, cleaned the lenses and repainted the black trim on both lights. This is one of them installed on the car and I also installed aluminum bumper brakets.

I am currently working on the rear bumper. I hope to have it on this weekend. I will post more pictures after I complete more work. Thanks for looking, Jason.

Looking good! Always liked the GN.

Cool car. Are they spoolfool fillers or danko. I bought danko and they fit great.

Interesting that someone would swap the hydroboost for a vacuum setup. Was that definitely a GN and not a regular regal ??

The RPO label in the trunk says it is a GN. Do a search a lot of people do the vacuum set up. A couple of years ago I think GM High Tech did an article on it because the Hydro Boost fail a lot. I think I still have it, I just have to look. I am not sure about the fillers. I bought them off of someone from the Turbo forum.

Hydroboost is something different then the powermaster setup...

grazi 07-19-2014 01:44 PM

Right , all of the hot airs came with the hydroboost setup from the factory . That's why I'm surprised someone would replace a reliable unit like the hydroboost with a vacuum. I just replaced my powermaster setup with a hydroboost.

I think The gm high tech article your thinking about was the swap from a powermaster to hydroboost.

I mounted the bumper today. I removed the bumperetes, welded the holes close to give it a smooth look. Repainted and buffed it out. Next step is to drop the tank, remove the fuel lines and install new stainless steal fuel lines and new fuel pump.

Bumper looks great! I just did the same with mine except I also removed the impact strip too. There was about 20 holes that needed to be welded. I haven't painted it yet but I can tell it's goin to look great. The fuel supply line from above axle to filter is a bastard to get to without a lift.

Nothing yet. Engine is still on the stand.

I dropped the gas tank and ordered my Racetronix fuel pump. Here are some pictures of the rear end with Moroso trick springs, drag shocks, UMI boxed upper and lower trail arms and after market sway bar.

Sweet dude, what work is done to the motor and when are you putting it in.

91chevyz28 08-31-2014 07:23 PM

The motor is a stock bottom end with new gaskets and I had the heads port and polished with heavier valve springs and bigger valves. I am getting bigger injectors with TT chip, EGR delete and a TA49 turbo. I have a stretched intercooler, a TH downpipe with the old Flowmaster cat back system from back in the day. I am using different mufflers. Everything is powder coated on the engine. I get a good price on powder coating since my Brother is the shop foreman at the local Harley dealership. I am on a tight budget because I have kids and a house.
