Just picked it up today. Ram no more.

4 cylinders of turbocharged diesel burning fury, because all the cool kids have diesel and/or boost.

MDSheds_SS 10-11-2017 07:18 PM

Looks good man. Best of luck with it.

Blackbirdws6 10-11-2017 07:20 PM

Congrats! I like the color. What made you switch things up?

ar0ck 10-11-2017 07:24 PM

Man I am jealous, thats exactly the same combo I would get if I had the coin. Looks awesome!

The_Bishop 10-11-2017 07:26 PM

Sheds: Thanks!

BLS: Because after just 4.5 short years of nearly obsessive cleaning and rinsing out the underside of the Ram, it was developing cancer in the drivers side quarter, from the inside out. Talked to the dealership's body guy about corrosion warranty, and he told me that while they would probably cover it, the repair would more or less be a craptacular bandaid that would hold for about 6 months before popping through again. The right fix would be replacing the rusty stuff, what they were going to do was grind off the rusty stuff, hit it with 'converter' and whatever fill was needed, then repaint.

That was enough for me to 'nope' the hell right out of there.

LTb1ow 10-11-2017 07:26 PM

Awwwww yea!

My dad loves his, his only complaint is that it isn't loud enough.

The_Bishop 10-11-2017 07:39 PM

Thanks, ARock! If I wasn't }{ that close to having my Ram paid off, and there weren't a couple of 2017 loaded diesel Colorados sitting around in lots that dealers wanted to get rid of because the '18s were right next to them, I couldn't have pulled it off. I got a screaming deal, a great trade in and 0% financing.

LTb1ow: Yeah, I hear you. Funny thing is after the front factory snow plow, er... air dam fell off and landed in my shed, it seemed to let a little more of the diesel music shine through.

The reasons why, in the rear wheel well:

If you look carefully, you can spot the tiny bubbles in the paint making their way to the outer surface.

When I stuck a camera probe behind this, there was more rust evident, it just didn't show yet.

The more I looked around, the more I kept finding signs of thin paint and rust starting:

Nice truck! Did you buy it from the Shumacher on 46 in Denville?

Blackbirdws6 10-12-2017 07:58 AM

I guess we both learned a lesson in avoiding FCA products.

Anti_Rice_Guy 10-12-2017 08:57 AM

Congrats Keith, you know how I feel about RAM products despite my father owning one

I drove one of those and thought it was very nice! Tons of power, quiet. If I had a need for a personal pickup I would get one.

sweetbmxrider 10-12-2017 09:40 AM

Lovin it! Hope it serves you well. I'd love to grab a canyon variant....

As for the wheel well rust, I've seen it on every brand truck out there. Biggest issue is the folded over lip catching all of the terrible the rear wheels kick up. I would check your current truck for a similar situation and take preventative measures 8-)

I have 4 silverados ranging in age of 4 and 10 years, from 40k to 150k miles and none of them have any. None of them are washed as regularly as they should be, let alone to Keith levels.

My uncle's 01 suburban is in the same boat, but has rust along the rocker panels with 270k miles.

I have 12 Express vans between 2 and 13 years old and 40k to 240k miles. None of them have rust somehow

Meanwhile I have an 04 F250 that's rusting to pieces with 120k miles.

My '05 silverado had the rockers and cab corners replaced. Bed is rotted to hell around the wheel wells. I'm very anal about cleaning

Maybe? :shifty:

If you know anyone there, definitely not.

What really sucks is I genuinely liked the Ram and the plan was to hold onto it. Problem is if the rust gets visible resale/trade-in effectively becomes zero and repairs cost $$.

Hah! Yeah, I know your feelings regarding Ram trucks. I liked mine, had no mechanical issues. However from a longevity issue, visible rust at 4.5 years old wasn't working for me.

Yeah, that's the plan. As soon as it dries up outside a bit, the plan is to get a case of fluidfilm and give the undercarriage a bath in it.

I got Boeshield, in the gallon container after I went through 2 aerosol cans in no time. Just put it on with a cheap spray bottle

The_Bishop 10-12-2017 12:05 PM

I may give that a shot. It's pricey, though! I can get Fluid Film locally, though. Need to find a source of the Boeshield.

BonzoHansen 10-12-2017 12:11 PM

Fluid film is smelly lol

LS1ow 10-12-2017 12:25 PM

Very nice! we got one of them traded into my dealer recently(not a diesel) Super nice truck, just could not justify spending right now.

Good luck !

Boeshield smells good, almost a sweet smell. I love it

91chevyz28 10-12-2017 01:12 PM

I asked about the dealer because my son works there as a tech.

Where'd you pick it up? Anyone local?

Thanks! It drives real nice, a lot more 'car like' than the Ram did. There's so much electronics going on that I feel like I'm piloting the space shuttle.

Yeah, I was just kidding around.

Anti_Rice_Guy 10-13-2017 03:13 PM

What kinda mileage are you getting?

IROCZman15 10-13-2017 08:50 PM

nice truck man ! awesome. My coworker has wanted to get one of these for a bit, but has not pulled the trigger yet. Keep us updated and it will help me convince him to get one.

Luckily I have no rust on the insides of my wheel wells on my 2006 dodge ram w 51,000 miles. Since I got it, I have been spraying rubberized undercoating up in there especially on the inner upper lip to prevent rust. So far so good. The fluid film and boeshield intrigues me, maybe I could do that for the rest of the chassis though. cool

The_Bishop 10-14-2017 02:06 PM

Nick: Just got 30.4 mpg round trip (104 miles or so) to work, that includes some traffic, a little inner city driving, and some 70 mph stuff.

Iroc: Thanks! The rust thing pissed me off as I had been pretty thorough (anal?) about washing off the bottom of the truck and spraying all the junk out of the quarters. Took me by surprise.

Teds89IROC 10-20-2017 09:23 AM

Love the color! I love my Colorado as I'm sure you will be loving yours. Lots of luck!
