Yeah, saw a few folks who did the whole 'delete and tune' thing. Making some impressive power. I'm not looking to screw around with the stock tune. It's my daily driver, and it makes enough power as is. Cosmetics are a different ball game.

Me: Hey, today's going to be great weather. Let me get my Plasti-Dip out and commence with 'Operation: Kill Chrome!'

So much for your fortune telling abilities. Gorgeous here in Dover.

The_Bishop 11-03-2017 01:19 PM

It didn't stop me, I just cursed a lot and moved the truck (masking, first coat and all) under my carport tent.

Got the 4 coats on, now I'm just waiting an hour or so for it to dry up enough to reassemble the fog light trim, put the front emblem back on, and peel the dip from around the emblems.

I was a little hesitant to use the gunmetal, but I think it'll look perfect once it's all done.

Dechrome all the things!

Wow that looks excellent ! Between your mini build, and passing the Chevy dealer on my way to work and seeing a nice dark green one sitting, makes it hard to not stop in!

Blackbirdws6 11-03-2017 07:01 PM

Came out real nice!

The_Bishop 11-03-2017 07:12 PM

LS1ow - When I got the alignment today at OK4WD, a bunch of the counter guys were ogling pretty hard. They're sharp looking trucks!

BLS: Thanks! Still on the fence about hitting the inner part of the bowtie with carbon fiber wrap, just to break things up a bit. Not sure how it would adhere, as it's textured a bit.

sweetbmxrider 11-04-2017 11:31 AM

I'm personally not feeling it. I like the carbon fiber idea though.

ar0ck 11-04-2017 11:43 AM

Well I know what I am doing tomorrow after work.

The_Bishop 11-04-2017 02:19 PM

BMX: What aren't you 'feeling'? The color, the fact that they're not shiny? I'm always open to feedback, and it's all reversible.

ar0ck: What's that?

sweetbmxrider 11-04-2017 03:55 PM

I'm not sure. Might be too bland or lack of shine. I think center bowtie in carbon fiber could do the trick. If not, gloss black emblems would probably be my vote.

The_Bishop 11-04-2017 06:27 PM

Once the new carbon fiber wrap gets here I'll be doing that middle insert. The stuff I have has been sitting on a shelf for three years and is sort-of noname so I don't really trust it.

sweetbmxrider 11-05-2017 08:29 AM

I hear ya. Kirkevil isn't a big fan of carbon fiber vinyl. I guess the sun beats it up too quick.

The_Bishop 11-05-2017 09:10 AM

After thinking about BMX's advice and laying awake all night questioning all my life choices, I decided to try something.

Here is the emblem with the plasti-dip peeled from the bowtie:

Here is the emblem done with the carbon fiber wrap I have on hand:

This stuff is super-crappy. It's stiff and very fragile even when warmed up with a heat gun. The adhesive sucks. I have no illusions on how long it's going to last and the remainder of the roll I have went into the garbage when I was done.

So, thoughts?

sweetbmxrider 11-05-2017 09:47 AM

Option 3 - Gloss black center!

The_Bishop 11-05-2017 09:58 AM

I have two other wraps showing up. The 3m matte black carbon fiber and Vvivid matte metallic black.

Blackbirdws6 11-05-2017 11:19 AM

Maybe go with Carbon Flash wrap? It's a color code used on vettes (metallic black)

The_Bishop 11-05-2017 12:23 PM

I wonder if this stuff is very similar, just matte. I have a 1'x5' piece of it coming.

The_Bishop 11-05-2017 12:27 PM

Now that I've been screwing around with this wrap stuff, I've been kicking around the idea of wrapping the black T-Top trim that runs along the roof (it's looking a bit weathered) and even possibly wrapping the T-Tops themselves to keep some of the sun out of the car when the tops are on.

Edit: On my Camaro, doh! I don't have a T-Top Colorado.

The current state of affairs:

Duratracs in 265/65/17. On paper, only marginally bigger than the stock 255/65/17 Goodyear Wrangler Adventures (With Kevlar!) but a lot meatier looking on the truck.

Anti_Rice_Guy 11-08-2017 03:40 PM

Now it's starting to look right! Duratracs are a pretty solid tire, I put them on my uncle's Suburban and my dad's Ram for the winter. Very quiet for the tread.

The_Bishop 11-08-2017 04:01 PM

The reviews on them are solid. With my chosen career, I need to get to work no matter the weather, so hopefully these will serve well for the next two years!

The ride is surprisingly good and they're pretty quiet for the type of tire they are.

sweetbmxrider 11-09-2017 10:32 AM

In my head, I was thinking you'd go with duratracs. They've been good to me and they look real good with minimal road noise, nice choice.
