The springs probably fit 3 gen and up....

No, the front springs won't fit a 3rd gen, and the rears won't give you the advertised drop due to the weight differences between 3rd and 4th gens.

How much of a drop are they supposed to give?

i never measured but it was a 2 finger gap above the rear tires.

is it suggested to get new shocks when you lower the car?

you should get ones that are matched to the spring rate IMO
