$500 tranny drain and fill!?

No wonder these are rich peoples' cars! Took my Jaguar XJR to AAMCO for its 80k tranny service. I typically do these things myself, but this is a "sealed for life" unit which is a HUGE p.i.t.a. to work on. So a jag filter is built into the pan, so it needs a whole new pan, and at $10 a quart for their brand fluid, plus labor and taxes...500 bucks haha. I changed the suspension on this thing last week, Jaguar quoted me $1500...per shock lol. I did that part myself, i just took it to them to make sure it was the shock that was giving us the problem. Just a little nugget for you average joes that think it's fun to own nice cars haha Rant off

old jags suck.

$1500 per shock - does it have the nivomat (sp?) suspension? did you have to add hyrdaulic (specialized mineral based) fluid?

god does it have in-board rear breakes too?

also that car probably came oe with 225/70VR15s. They don't handle anywhere as well with tires lowre than H speed ratings. so more fun for you.

My old XJS had in-board breaks, but im selling that. I actually picked up a 2004 Jaguar XJR. It has the CATS air suspension on it. I found the shocks online for $400 as rebuilts, but they also have a lifetime warranty so i'm not worried. But god is it a nice car haha

Air suspension ? Our 750s are 1800$ for a rear shock at 150$/hr labor. Never saw the price of a front but I can only imagine.

Arnott makes the rebuilt ones and it was the same price for front and rear, sports or comfort haha. But again, at that price you cant beat it. Especially with a lifetime warranty. And they were just as easy to change as regular shocks despite 2 local garages saying "Jaguar!?! no way we dont do them high class cars!" here's the link to the site i got it from http://www.arnottindustries.com/ for future reference.

I gotta ask.

What are you doing with your '79 if you have a $75,000 car to play with?

first off, im 21 fellas lmao And i got it for 9 grand with a few problems. The radio didnt work, suspension was shot, rear DVD player didnt work, sat-nav didnt work, ect. All of this was fixed by plugging in the AMP in the trunk, and changing one shock. That got about half knocked off of the KBB value haha. And i'll still be fixing up the camaro. The jag i believe is faster than the camaro, but it feels so computerized. I'll be parking the camaro for winter and since this summer i got all the mechanicals in line. I'll be doing the body next summer!

oh I was thinking of your old xjs. I was wondering how the jag trans was behind a chevy 4.3.

Fix the one you have & sell it soon!

sweetbmxrider 10-19-2011 12:04 PM

Yeah I hate when my rear dvd plasma ray and satellite telecommunications go offline :(

Jag faster than camaro? That's embarrassing.

I have a guy coming sunday to take a look at it. He offered $1400, i picked it up a year ago for 1500 and drove it daily. Didnt put any real work into it aside from maintenance and tweaking. All in all a $100 loss on a car isn't that bad at all lol
