Shift Knob Removal

How to you take off the anoying stock T-56 Shift Knob?

When I try to twist it off, the knob itself rotates and pivots. I think that is supposed to happen. So my question is are their any screws I have to find or procedures to remove the ball?

I just ordered a Hurst Classic White 6-speed shift knob :

i have an identical one in black...

when removing the old one make sure you're turning the shift knob counter-clockwise, and continue to turn it in that direction until it comes off...the only reason it may be pivoting is because of lock-tite or some crap like that...just unscrew it all the way and pull

when installing the new knob thread the mini nut thing on with the circular end facing up all the way to the bottom of the threads...then thread the new knob on and the 6-speed design should line up perfectly on your shifter
