I want to change the Kingpin tapers? (cones maybe ?)on my front Dana 60 and they need to be torqued to 600

Get Wild Billy T to torque it with his arms. They gotta be at least 800 lbs.

wretched73 10-26-2017 01:52 PM

Just use an impact gun. 800+ ft lbs of tightening force

I don't like doing that, plus I don't think the tool is rated for impact. Plus I don't really have an impact

How do you still not have an impact???

I might have the torque wrench at work, I'll check.

I have one, but I don't use it, plus I don't have impact rated sockets.

Thanks. I don't need the wrench right now, I will still have to get the cones. I am just trying to see if someone had one, if I couldn't borrow I would have to take it to a shop.

I have read about someone that made their own "torque wrench", I think they put a drive on the end of a 5 foot bar, and a receiving hole in the end to put their regular torque wrench and they torqued it to 100lbs on their real wrench, so the overall force was 600lbs, because science

omarcamaro 10-27-2017 08:51 PM

I would try to find a torque multiplier for your application at work we torque the bus wheels to 500 ft lbs the wrench is 1in drive by like 5 or 6 ft very awkward to use

I saw those too, but they are as much money as a torque wrench :| I was thinking about one of those "drives" that you stick in between the socket and a breaker bar that gives you the torque value, but I don't have a 3/4" drive bar and I am pretty sure I would snap my 1/2' drive stuff

Jeg's has got one for $200 or so. A lot of money but *maybe* it's returnable?
