Just Spit Shined The Whip

I had a little time on my hands...oh say, 6-7 hours... so I thought I'd detail my car.
a few products I used:
- Noxon Metal Cleaner
- Meguiars M105
- Meguiars M205
- Porter Cable
- microfiber towels
- Meguiars ScratchX
- Meguiars Claybar and quick detailer spray
- Tropicare Concentrated Carwash soap
- Amway Gel Bug and Tar Remover
- etc.

btw I don't use any products on the tires because all that does is wear the side walls out.
PS: the 4.0 megapixel camera does no justice.

eh i use it from time to time, but too much of it is bad. once you stop using the product you will notice the side of the tires looks like its cracking apart, which is because the tire is too dry. tire shine is a two sided sword. it looks great but if not properly maintained it will destroy the tire over time. iuno my dad just embedded that into my brain when i was little and still now i m skeptical about it.

it will effect the properties of the tire...

Car looks good. Tires aren't supposed to be shiny, I never use that stuff.

I did it without a buffer

Looks good though. I use tireshine because it makes the tires look nice. I dont feel that it will cause them to dry rot...needs researching!

Most products are oil based and the oil breaks down the sidewall compounding, including the chemicals that protect the tire from UV rays.

I saw many times where tire companies denied warranty claims on sidewall cracking is the owner used armor all, etc., on the tire.

Looks good. And that is interesting, never knew that about tire shine. All of them contain oil? I never looked.

Silicone = made from oil

Anti_Rice_Guy 06-10-2009 10:09 AM

Interesting. I shall halt the use of said products then.

thanks for clearing that up Bonzo.

Silicone-Free tire shine here. No issues and no cracking.

Jam 06-10-2009 03:33 PM

since I'm somewhat new to detailing I didn't even know that they make silicone free tire dressings. I just ordered the Four Star Ultimate Tire Protectant Spray.

I know I'm not brian but check out pinnacles stuff. everyone seems to be referring me to them.

Anti_Rice_Guy 06-11-2009 10:30 AM

Would it specifically say it wasn't?

How about this? This or Meguiar's insane shine is what I generally use.

Quote:

Engineered with water-resistant polymers and combined with Meguiar’s patented anti-ozonant technology to protect tires, Hot Shine Tire Spray is an easy-to-use spray and walk away formulation. It protects sidewalls and prevents cracking, browning and premature aging, while delivering that desirable wet-look shine.

Jam 06-11-2009 10:37 AM

eh look for stuff that say "petroleum distillate-free" "silicone free" "natural oils" blah...check out autogeek.net > exterior car care > wheel and tire cleaners.

Jam 06-11-2009 10:40 AM

now a new question: Whenever I try to condition my leather seats it doesn't seem to really get into the pores of the leather. what usually helps is by running the heater for a little while and then apply the products, but I've heard somewhere that because our seats have a protective coating on the thick GM leather it's really hard to condition them. any advice?

Rich189 06-11-2009 02:13 PM

You took pictures of your freshly detailed black car in the shade/rain? you need pictures in the direct sunlight or halogens to really show results.

For example:
Before:
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...g?t=1244747321

During wet sanding and compounding:

http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...g?t=1244747400

After:
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...g?t=1244747485
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...g?t=1244747528

As far as tire shine check out pinnacle, system one, 4 star, and griots

And for leather: Dp for budget is good and lexol and leatherique are all i use
