what do you know about the monsoon audio systems?
pretty sure i have monsoon in my firebird. has sub only in the sail panel. has an aftermarket headunit (which ill prob change again eventually). now i have some blown speaker and rather than just replace them with crappy stuff i want to get good speakers and upgrade the system with good stuff. found what im assuming is the amp for the stock system in my driver 1/4 panel when i stripped the car. how powerfull is the stock amp. if i get decen JL components for the doors and hatch would the stock stuff power it good or would i be better off looking into a completely custom setup with new amps and such. prob wont have a huge amount of money left over to do this but just seeing what my best options are

I put 10 powerbass speakers in my car, and a 10" powerbass sub in a stealth box in the trunk with a kicker amp... works perfect for me ;P

I rewired my car and removed the monsoon amp. Ran new wires to sail panels and used full range rockford 6 3/4"'s and they are now the rear channel. New 6 3/4" componets in the doors, and use the factory tweeter wires since they dont go through the monsoon amp.
Kenwood headunit, subthump 10" box with alpine amp and type s sub. The rear hatch speakers are gone entirely now. |

thanks guys for the replies... i guess the biggest issue keeping the monsoon system is because they put the "lows" in the sail panel so if i run a sub in the back id have to run something else to the sail panel. or i can do what you did brian and get a head unit with a small amp piggy backed to hit to throw out some more power and then try those 6.5 subs in the sail panel from keeaudio that maroman got. but year brian next time we together and you have your car id deff like to listen... this amp that piggybacked to your head unit came with the HU or was additional but made for it? i dont need a lot of bass but want to hear teh bass if that makes sense. i listen to mostly metal and rock so i dont need to thump but would rather hear clean bass guitar lines in songs and still hear all the other highs crisply

what head unit do you have.. i know its an alpine but what model do you know? just want to look it up and see what this little amp thing is about do some reasearch and ill prob have my ipod on my when i see ya so we can plug that in or somthing no need to go out of your way. i know i could go out and buy a 5 channel amp and just do a complete system from scratch but im trying to stay away from having huge power cables run all around my car and amps mounted in plain sight. but your set up seems like somthing id be interested in brian.
