is there anyone on here in the NEPA or NNJ area that can tune e4me Computer Controlled Qjet setups?? im having alot of trouble getting this thing to run right, i dont want to take it to a shop and pay a fortune to have it tuned before ive exhausted all my options, if someone whos decent at tuning ccQjets would be willing to come by and lend a hand i could give some compensation gas money beer pizza etc
specs on the engine are as follows 87 LG4 ecu/pcm 87 LG4 HEI 87 LG4 E4me carb, iab is 4 turns out, primaries are 3.25 turns out fuel pressure is 3-5psi unsure of the timing as i cant get it to idle for long lt4 hot cam vortec heads rpm intake hooker shortie headers E3 plugs, msd 8.5mm wires, accell cap and rotor intank tre 255lph pump QFT afpr if anymore info is needed let me know, |
Try and get a hold of Damon Nickles. I think he's in Philly, and hangs out on NastyZ.

I might be able to help, but what exactly are you trying to do?
|
get it to run, and move on its own power, she starts, idles a little bit and shuts off.
|
Ok, that is a bit beyond me... I'm good at tuning them for performance, not making them run correctly.

FYI,
You need to get the carb built to support the mods. This involves installing the truck style Bowl and float pins, and larger jets and metering rods. Then the chip reprogrammed. There is a book about the Q-jet that details the part numbers and tools needed. I did this many years ago, late 80s. I converted my 305HO to a 355 and attempted to keep ECM/Carb. The carb parts weren't cheap and you need some special tools such as odd size torqushead that I had to buy from MAC Tools to take the carb apart. I used Fast Chip / Ed Wright for the tuning. Tuning took allot of attempts to get it right. |
Could see if you could get a hold of TAdan, if I recall I think he said his dad is good a tuning and working on the CC Q jets. Or can see if you can get in touch with a couple of people on thirdgen.org there are several people over there that are good with it. Can't think of names off my head. I had issues but even I got my CC Qjet working. I think in my case the timing was off. It would fire and die, I was way out. Put a wrench on the crank turn it til the motor is at TDC number one on the compression stroke (I know its basic) set the motor at the timing marks then check the distributor.
Will it run long enough for you to get out and play with the distributor? |
she will start and run and idle for a short time, if there was someone to help me we coud probably get her timed, but by the time i start it and get out to the dizzy she dies :(
|
i have a build thread on 3rdgen... they think the timing is off
|
so... anyone wanna come help with the timing??
|
why not bump the base timing up a little at a time until it idles and then set it to what you want. if timing is the issue then that will work. also check you firing order and pull out a plug to check for any kind of fouling. the carb itself may need a rebuild if you haven't done so
Also I just want to add I had a K5 blazer with a E4ME and I wound up just getting a rebuild from guaranteed carbs and it worked great. there is too much BS with the CC q-jets. Another option would be to switch to an older style Q-jet and have the cold start enrichment solenoid deleted out of the prom |
