Gotta love when somebody runs a stop sign!

:-x Last Saturday, someone blew a stop sign on me over by DMV off route 1 in Lawrence. I had no way to avoid them due to all the other traffic around. I'm waiting to hear back from the insurance company if the truck is going to be repaired or totaled. Their car ran into my right front tire for the most part, but the suspension on the truck is all bent up (the lift kit brackets are bent back and the wheel is scraping the steering knuckle) and the cab lifted in the back and twisted towards the driver's side and the driver's door sticks now. It doesn't look that bad in the picture but I can't tell if the hood pushed back and bowed a little or if the fender bowed. At least nobody was hurt. So I might be looking for a new daily driver soon if they total it.

Glad to hear everyone is alright. That looks like a hard impact! Did the Passat owner fess up to running the stop sign?

Ouch! Glad to see your okay though. Hopefully they pay out nicely

That just sucks. That's a nice truck

Blackbirdws6 03-04-2018 01:43 PM

Sorry to hear but glad no one was hurt.

A witness hung around to talk to the police and the other driver got a ticket. Luckily, the impact was 35 mph or less and we hit corner to corner which was probably the best case scenario regarding possible injuries. The suspension lift drop brackets are close to 1/4" steel and they bent back. I wonder if that caused the frame crossmember area to bend or stretch the bolt holes.

I'm my experience, most aftermarket parts will bend before the factory pieces.

Glad to hear your ok Jeff

Sorry to hear about the truck but glad you're OK, Jeff.

Glad you're okay

ah bummer about the crash. best of luck with the repair if able to be repaired

windchaser 03-06-2018 06:53 AM

Good thing, no one got hurt.

And it's a total loss. The frame is bent pretty good they said so the repairs would be too high. Time to figure out what to get for a new daily driver. I don't know if I could live without a pickup at this point.

I was thinking about that. I still have a 4th gen trailer hitch though. I stopped by the shop to get stuff out of the truck and the plates and took a better look at the bent up suspension. It's even worse than I thought. Part of the frame even cracked. They said it wasn't even close to lining up. The passenger front wheel went backwards with the cab and the driver's side came forward. It didn't feel like that bad of a hit probably because the tire and suspension absorbed most of it.

So I finally got a replacement truck. It's a 2013 Tacoma regular cab 4x4 with around 3" of suspension lift with 285/75/16 (33") tires. It's amazing how stripped down these regular cab Tacomas are. Manual windows, manual door locks, manual mirrors, it actually has bucket seats and console with the automatic and that killer 2.7l 4 cyl engine! I feel like I'm sitting at least a foot lower than my Silverado was but I don't really need a full size truck so this will work well. It's actually got some nice add ons including aftermarket springs/shocks/struts, aftermarket upper control arms, Pro Comp wheels, new 285/75/16 tires, new cat/resonator pipe, new battery, welded on body sliders, trailer hitch/wiring, differential drop, add a leafs. I looked for 3 weeks for a Tacoma regular cab and since they don't make them anymore, they tend to sell fast. I need to try and get better pictures on a cloudy day, it washes out really bad on sunny days, especially with snow in the background.
