Craigslist lawsuits?

So has anyone known if you can sue someone over a bad Craigslist deal? I bought an engine about 6 months ago and it's been sitting on my engine stand and I finally got around to taking it apart to install different heads and it's trash. Supposed to be machine shop fresh, more like meth head backyard hone job tossed together with junk parts and damaged 243 heads bolted on it. Do I have any leg to stand on here for a lawsuit or is it just he said she said type deal especially since the Craigslist ad is long gone. I was able to find the guys information on ls1 tech after a quick Google search of his phone number and he has multiple threads about how he was taking money and never sending parts. I hate people.

ur prob gonna spend more time/money trying to sue him than u lost on the engine

That's what I figured..

How much did you spend? And can you prove it? Do you have the description?

Small claims court is perfect for stuff like that and fairly easy to do unless they've changed the process. Might be something to look into.

That really sucks.

$1500 as it was machine shop fresh with paperwork. Well he kept the paperwork and I normally screenshot Craigslist ads but I didn't this time, so that info is gone. My wife was with me when I bought it tho.

Without the ad and confirmation the person posted it, it's an uphill battle for sure.

Any text messages or emails to confirm what you were buying and asking questions about condition, etc?

I have emails and texts. That's about it. I kinda figured it wasn't worth it as it would end up being a he said she said. Not much to stand on evidence wise other than multiple threads on ls1 tech if him being a scumbag bag POS.

Karma is a bitch... he will get his one day. Sucks that you got the **** end of the stick man. I buy and sell a bunch on CL and there are some weird/shady people out there. Win some and ya lose some.

Seems like you lose more than ya win anymore with craigslist or forums. Lesson learned when it comes to engines always buy new. I'm ready to part the car to be honest, I dont even want to look at it.

What's his name on tech?

B4C 10-12-2018 12:06 PM

He also has another motor for sale on Craigslist right now. Would flag it but seems like they changed that, can't seem to figure it out.

Yup been saving for a while, even sold my Jeep to fix my car, now I'm ready to junk it all.

qwikz28 10-12-2018 01:28 PM

For that amount take them to small claims court on your own and hope they don't show up. That's your best bet.

rockbox 10-12-2018 02:42 PM

I think it costs $15 to file a claim in NJ and it's for anything under $3000.
Dude, give it a try and hope he pays up just to avoid the hassle. At worst you're out $15 and some time.

B4C 10-12-2018 03:16 PM

Even if I win, dosent mean he will pay.

ThoR294 10-12-2018 04:02 PM

Tell him you'll sell him a fully forged engine cheap. Get your money back

You click the prohibited link.

Sucks dude, sorry to hear. Follow Jake's advice for sure. Might be able to garnish his wages? Or just make it a pain in the ass if he goes for a mortgage/refinance etc.

MDSheds_SS 10-12-2018 07:52 PM

Someone needs to fill his mouth with 40w oil like Johnny Tran did to his motor guy.

madness410 10-12-2018 11:25 PM

what sucks is the length of time between purchase and you taking it apart. he could easily say he sold you a good motor and u screwed it up in that time.
