Ford 9"
ok so today I dove in and order my ford 9" axle housing from quick performance, ive yet to order the center section yet, but id like some opinions on whether I went the right way with it or not. Im mainly looking for a street/strip car, right now its a 6spd heads cam ls1 Camaro ss. I may go to a turbo in the spring time, I guess that depends on the bank account and transmission. Here's what I ordered
QPF9F9HA QP GM 1993-2002 F Body 9 Inch Housing & Moser Axles Housing Center Piece: New Fabricated (light & strong) - $100.00 Housing Ends: Billet GM Flush (with seal surface for GM 93-02 F body disc brakes) Moser Axle Spline Count: 35 Spline Moser Axle Wheel Studs: 1/2"-20x2" Gundrill Axles 35 or 40 spline only (lightening): No Star Flange Axles (lightening): No What year is your car?: 2002 4 Channel ABS/TCS rings installed: yes - $200.00 im gonna go with 4.11's for the center section, im not sure if I should go with a spool or what so any input on that would be greatly appreciated also not to sure about axle seals and bearings, im not sure if the axle comes with them installed and what not, so any input on that would be great quick performance says that their centers come set and ready to bolt in but I think it would be wise to check backlash however, im not certain how to do that so maybe when the time comes someone could help me out? I think that's it as far as worries, its another learning experience for me and I cant wait!!! |
no spool on a street car.
hmmm ok so than an eaton truetrack? mind shedding some light on a spool and why it wont work? just for my knowledge, I trust your judgement bonzo
Spool are great for drag racing. Not much other kind of driving.
Spools do not allow the back wheels to rotate at different ('differential') speeds on a turn and thus can cause potentially dangerous problems turning, worse if the pavement is wet. They also stress wheel studs on turns. There are guys that will say that is all crap, spools are fine. I politely disagree based on my experiences and the professionals I have talked to over the years. Not anecdotal stories from the internet. YMMV Give percentages how much street vs strip. 50/50? 99%/1%? Be honest. Also no auto-x intentions at all right, true street/strip? |
no auto-x for me cant afford that sport haha, but no its probably more street than strip, id say 75/25 although that may change now that I wont have a rear to worry about, but im probably gonna go with the truetrack I think between the gears, and the not worrying about my rear exploding im gonna be happier than a pig in ... yeah
I think you'll be happy.

The eaton got some pretty bad reviews lately. Quick is going to try and push the strange center section, get the yukon. It's beefier, the main caps are bigger, and its the same price. I got that with 4:11's and a wave track. IMO spend alittle more and get the wave track, lifetime warranty, drives like stock, strong, acts like a spool when locked.
Ya you don't want a truetrack with an m6. Detroit or wavetrack are what you should look at.
sweet thanks for the input guys!
I got the same rear your looking at ordering. I dropped the center right in with no issues, wines alittle bit but that can be expected with 4:11's. They say to use only rtv, mine leaks, spend $20 and get a lube locker gasket. If your going turbo you might want a different gear ratio.
Gear it for what you have now, not on the future dreams you have.
A turbo gear will suck without the turbo part. |
Eaton or no posi says my engine builder
ok cool thanks, it looks like swapping gears in a 9" would be a lot easier considering you can pull the whole center section, as far as axle seals, and what not in the tube, b4c, did you notice if the housing came with all those? I don't mind buying the extra stuff, but I don't wanna buy it and find out it came with them. was everything installed? all you had to do was bolt the center to the housing? and obviously attach brakes... im just trying to get all my ducks in a row so to speak
oh... and if the jeep sells for a moderate price, the turbo may be happening sooner, can anyone shed some light on a good turbo gear for me? :help:
3.08 - 3.54 range pending turbo size, redline, and trans..
ok cool im thinking about getting in on the tech group purchase, im not sure if im allowed to say where there buying from though... so ... yeah

I've heard about issues with carbon fiber clutches our something like that. Is that what you are taking about?
No, why buy a posi with wearable parts when you can buy one with out. Like a Detroit locker or wave track
i don't see where eatons wear out very quickly, and clutches are rebuildable unlike say an auburn.
A Detroit locker is good for a street/strip car. The yukon stuff we have used has all been good. |
yeah i added the abs option cause thats what my car has on it now, did it come with any directions from them by chance? i guess that sounds kinda dumb but idk my way around axles that well
