Thrust Performance

Has anyone heard anything about Thrust Performance in South Amboy? They are on Rt. 9 South near the parkway off-ramp which is right down the road from me. I was going to order tires from Tirerack.com and apparently they are an installation place for tires as well as a motor shop. Thanks in advance.

Matt-

I heard about them on LS1Tech. Apparently they are a new shop with great equipment. The owner races at englishtown in a Vette. I sent my buddy with a Miata there to check it out. I can't say much about the place except what I just told you and the guy on LS1tech liked them. If you do end up checking it out, update me. :)

Sounds good, I'll give him a call this week. I need a few things done, so if he can install my tires from tirerack.com and do more that would be sweet. BFG G-Force Super Sport A/S

I might have to check them out as well. I'm very close to them. I pass them on my way home from work everyday.

I called and talked to one of the guys and it sounded like a good place. Im getting tires sent there from tirerack.com later in February and they said they would look at what I wanted to do. I'll keep you guys updated.

My buddy emailed me last night and said he will be going there once the snow lets up. They have a super low clearance alignment rack which is great for low cars. I'll likely give them a shot to install some bushings and clean up the awful alignment that's on the car now.

88WS-6 02-03-2011 05:04 AM

Ok cool. That's good bc the GTA's pretty low with 23 year old springs.

88WS-6 02-13-2011 02:36 PM

Just ordered Koni yellow shocks and struts and 4 bfg g-force super sport a/s tires! They are being delivered to Thrust Performance around the end of the month for installation along with the Eibach Prokit. I'll keep you guys updated.

sounds good. let me know how everything goes

88WS-6 02-13-2011 04:21 PM

Yea I will. Now I just have to get her running again so I can get the parts put on.

~Matt

qwikz28 02-13-2011 08:59 PM

You won't be disappointed with those shocks. They are the single best mod you can do to an f-body. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't have them.

88WS-6 02-14-2011 05:56 AM

Thanks I did a ton of research before I decided on the tires shocks and springs. Soon ill rebuild the front suspension and steering and do subframe connectors and new lcas and lcarbs. Eventually every suspension part will be new.

My strut were back ordered so its going to be another 2-3 weeks. bummer

monte383sbc 02-23-2011 10:12 PM

i just got that same hunter alinment rack at my shop, it works amazing

88WS-6 02-28-2011 06:46 AM

I dropped my car off on Friday so the work is being started. I have to stop there today and see if I can get two front tires for my truck because one has a leak. I also forgot to give them my springs and front LCA bushings.

Now I have to buy 6 tires in 2 weeks.

Picking the car up at 1! I can't wait to drive it!

coolmanvette75 03-12-2011 10:42 AM

good luck! watch out on rt 9 though lots of cops and hondas going towards the track today

88WS-6 03-13-2011 05:19 PM

I saw a ton of tuned cars out on rt 9 on saturday. I also saw a mustang cruise when I was leaving work on 287 S.

I got my car back and overall I'm pleased with Thrust. Its a little pricey at $95/hr for labor, but they did great work and talked to me about everything before they did anything. The owner Mike did all the work to my GTA and she handles really well now. The next thing I need to do will be a new MAF, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor and fuel injectors. Its also a plus that they receive tirerack.com orders.

BonzoHansen 03-13-2011 05:21 PM

$95/hr is not real pricey these days, esp if the work is good.

Fast92RS 03-14-2011 07:48 AM

Everytime I pass there place I never see many cars there. I'm always looking to see if there are any nice cars that they might be working on or possibly own but I never see any. I guess they are still trying to get off the ground or it could be just the weather yet.

88WS-6 03-14-2011 08:29 AM

It looked to me like most people went there for tires. They are one of the only tirerack.com suppliers in the area, and the owner said that all the huge potholes on rt 9 were giving him a lot of business.

88WS-6 03-14-2011 08:36 AM

And in case anyone was wondering, this is what I had them do:

-oil change
-trans fluid/filter
-rear diff fluid
-change speedo gear to match 3.73 gears (more on this in the tech section soon)
-install front LCA poly bushings
-hood struts
-install Koni yellow struts/shocks
-install Eibach pro-kit
-install UMI double adj panhard bar and then center the rear axle after drop springs
-install 4 new BFG g-force supersport a/s tires
-alignment
-install Spohn spherical strut mounts

Mike was very helpful and went over the car for me. He let me know my MAF was bad and he said that the oil and diff fluid were like sludge. After he changed the oil, the car started to put out some blue smoke on start-up, so my valve stems may be going too. The previous owner had new brake pads put on the car and apparently whoever did them never clamped down the little clip on the rear brakes, so the pads move and shake now. Add that to the list of things I need to do...
