my new project

hey guys some may know i was building an 86 monte carlo a few years back but ended up selling it. well ive been in nc for a few months now and finally sold the 88 f250 i had up in nj at my moms house. well with that said and alot of searching, (old gm cars in really bad shape down here are expensive as heck) i found my next projcet. picked up a roller another 1986 monte carlo for $400. needs a good amount of work but its rust free and what ive wanted to build since i sold off my other one.

(my last one i was making into a drag car) this one im going to go with a pro touring style look.

ill have more pictures as i get the free time to work on it.

If I can find all swap parts for good price ill do the SS front swap. 2-3 inch cowl hood. Looking at some 18x9. 18x10 black torque thrusts with polished lip. As far as power plant goes. Im getting a great deal on motor/trans so I have to make a special 9 hour drive back to nj to pick up a complete intake to oil pan with harness accessories and computer. Ls1 with 50k on it and fresh built auto behind that that a good friend has in his garage for me.

Ill also be painting car black and running coilovers front and rear to give me a nice stance with the 18s

I have a complete ss front end and doors. I'll ask my dad if he would sell

Looks like a great start, good luck with it!

Those cars are some of my favorites as they are just as easy to work on as the thir gens, but have more room inside for 4 peeps.

emolineaux 01-11-2013 12:18 PM

Well plans changed this morning. My friend needed the ls1 so he's giving me an awesome deal on an iron block 6.0 motor with the f body front accessories harness and computer! Which works out since I really wanted another 6.0 motor because I didn't get to enjoy the one I put in my old 98 z much

emolineaux 02-03-2013 08:28 PM

parts list updated in 1st post for this build. cant wait to get this build under way in march!

emolineaux 03-05-2013 08:48 AM

damn dude seems like moving to Carolina has been pretty good to you. got a nice house, nice space to work and now youre making progress to build that monte up. i remember seeing the one in your garage when i picked up some wheels awhile back from you. good to see things working out.

thanks man. still have a few more things i want to collect before i start working on the car. i regret selling the last monte i had. i found one here i just couldnt pass up. plus i just looked up my car it since it didnt have motor or trans when i bought it. come to find out it is a z code car so it came with fuel injected 4.3 so ill be able to reuse the fuel tank for this setup just need a fuel pump and run some new lines. instead of replacing everything.

update. 3/26/13 have not had much time since i got back from nj and my myrtle beach trips this month. been selling off some of the ls1 parts i know i wouldnt need and with that cash picked up a few parts for the car.

here are a few pics for now.

installed an lh8 oil pan kit. cleaned up motor and painted it chevy orange (have to clean paint off the gasket surfaces) bought a set of 5.3 heads that ill be porting and picked up an edelbrock intake.

also picked up a dual exhaust crossmember from jegs and lsx conversion motor mounts for the monte.

idk lol intake is pretty tall. i guess ill figure out a hood once motor is in the car.

emolineaux 04-02-2013 02:57 PM

Just need to port my set of 5.3 heads and decide on a cam and motor will be pretty much set.

Well today I test fit the motor in the car. Need to tweek the motor mounts to get it to sit right but here ya go. Don't need much of a cowl hood either just a 2.5-3 inch will be way more than enough. After motor mounts are tweaked I'm going to test fit the ls7 manifolds and downpipes that I picked up.

well the transdapt mounts i picked up that were suppose to be for a g body lsx swap didnt work for me. so i sold them off and picked up a set of s10 lsx swap mounts which as of today fit great (just had to drill 3 new holes in the crossmember but it did the job. motor and trans should be reinstalled by end of the weekend.

but the past few weeks i scored 2 good deals(at least i think deals were good) got a set of 17 inch torque thrust wheels. seller traded me his torque thrust wheels for my z06 replicas and he gave me cash on top of the deal. (i have $200 invested into wheels and tires lol) and i also scored a set of brand new eibach pro-kit springs for under a 3rd the price of retail. box was mangled but springs are brand new.

since i had a little down time with work i started getting a little body work done and test fit the new wheels. doors are pretty beat up so its going to take me some time to get them looking good again.

as far as the front bumper goes im going to be removing the area where the emblem was installed(its raised up from bumper cover) and making it look smooth and clean.
