New North Jersey Meetup and Cruise Group

Hey guys,

I’m gonna put this out there right away. I own a mustang not a camaro. But I do love camaros and pretty much all American muscle cars. Well anyways, I just started a meetup.com group looking for north NJ car enthusiasts looking to meetup for some cruises on the weekend when it’s nice out.

If you’re interested and from the area, I’d love to get some camaro guys to join.

Here’s the group page - http://www.meetup.com/North-Jersey-Cruisers/

First cruise is next Sunday the 29th looping around Upper Greenwood Lake and Greenwood Lake.

Here’s a pic of my stang, it’s a 07 GT/CS which stands for California Special. It’s got full exhaust with long tube headers, ford racing hot rod cams, 4.10 gears, and all the normal bolt-ons like intake, pulleys, delete plates, etc.

Hope to see some camaros cruise with us!

Not me, I've never been there. Unfortunately for me, a black mustang isn't the rarest car.

Are you from west milford? never seen that car before. I see your planning on meeting at the Starbucks in Oakland...you planning on 287 to thruway, 17m up past sterling forrest and around greenwood lake that-a-way? thats always a nice cruise. I'd be interested.

I'm actually from Mahwah.

I've never done that variation but I'd love to try it. This is a loop I've done 1000 times by myself. Takes about an hour and a half, 2 hours or so if we stop for lunch.

Here is the cruise mapped out on google maps - http://g.co/maps/s66mf

It would be 287 to the 2nd Exit (Exit 57 - Skyline Drive) to the end and making a right at the end where it hits the Wanaque Resorvoir (511). From there we are making a right and driving along the Wanaque Resorvoir and looping around both Upper Greenwood Lake and Greenwood Lake before heading back the same way along 511.

I'd love for you to join and possibly lead a cruise yourself if you have any good loops you like to take.

The reason I started this up is because while car shows are cool and everything, I find it much more enjoyable to drive my car on a beautiful day and explore new scenic roads, etc, than to hang out in a parking lot all day or sitting in a folding chair staring at my car. I can make you my resident camaro coordinator if you'd like to get involved more. Not looking to start a huge thing. Just a small core of local guys who love driving their cars on nice weekend days.

I also want it to be completely non-judgemental. There is an M3, a Golf GTi, and a G35 who signed up. I wouldn't even care if some bikers wanted to ride with us. I personally love American muscle cars so that's why I posted up here.

Some other cruises I had in mind were up around Harriman, High Point State Park, and maybe up to Middletown NY one Saturday to the stock car races they have up there.

I think I may have hiked past that spot once. Do you need to hike to that from a parking lot off of Clinton Road?

1320B4U 04-23-2012 02:34 PM

Your pretty much driving past my house w/that route your taking. The sterling forest route has a lot of twisty's and such up and down the mt...and if you deviate through sloatsburg road beforehand, thru the industrial area where ibm has a building its a sick, none traveled open road to sterling forest area.. I'll sign up on your link and we can discuss further..its your baby so i dont' want to take anything away from you.....but their is a creamery on top of mt. peter that has great scenic views for a halfway stretch point if your interested.

Trust me, your feedback is EXACTLY what I am looking for. I cruise by myself all the time and I imagine others do too. I envisioned this as some sort of collective where we can all show each other our cruises and take turns leading. I would love for you to sign up and lead the next cruise. First one is in less than a week so we should probably stick to the original plan on that one but I'd love for you to take the lead on the next one if your willing.

Also btw, my email is runfeldtj@yahoo.com if you want to email me. For some reason I'm not getting any emails through the meetup.com site. I've contacted them but haven't gotten it fixed yet.

Btw, we got our first camaro member today. Not sure if he's from this site or not, but I'm glad we got our first. I know some people are into that whole GM vs Ford thing but since I was 10 I wanted either a black camaro or black mustang and I still love both. The new camaros had just came out when I bought my stang and I would have loved one but a brand new car wasn't in my budget at the time hence the decision to get the mustang. That being said, I have a love affair going on with my stang as I'm sure many of you do with your camaros, so I have no regrets. Also looked into a black 81 Camaro with a 383 stroker in it. It was in great condition and only 8k but I didn't have the confidence in my mechanical abilities to take care of a 30 year old car and chickened out.

I have a few great routes from other groups' cruises that encompass longer trips and some forays into NW Jersey. Your site is blocked at work but I'll check it out at home.

Never heard of that site, I'll check it out. What do you guys do when you meet on Sat. nights? Do you drive around at all? Sounds like a nice group of cars you guys got there.

I'd love to throw some longer ones in too. I'm going to need others to lead because I only have a handful of routes right now. Looking for as much input as possible.
