Well, theoretically tossing car in air and disconnecting converter from flexplate is "easy" then just rev it and see if noise persists.
Doesn't sound like a bad idea and it would be good time to make sure they are torque'd to bink.
Would guideplates make this noise?
Maybe if your pushrods match your torque curve?
Anyone have a good write up or info on how guideplates are supposed to be setup?

Not a write-up but confirms you need some clearance. |

Depth does not matter as its not guiding PR, correct? |
Update: Noise persists.
Swapped in adjustable guideplates and checked rockers again for damage. At this point, the noise has been consistent with staying on one side of motor and showing itself under acceleration. Since the rockers, pushrods, lifters and guideplates have all been changed the only constant is the head. So assuming its the head, it could be valve guides, or valves themselves correct? |
My struggle with this is why would it only squeak during acceleration and not all the time. I wish I had an answer rather than stating the obvious. When you did the valve seals, did you feel or check for any issues with the valves?
Negative, other than they slid in out and what not easy enough to not set off red lights in my head.
Then I think I would rule out valve guides.
If they are too loose or something though couldn't that squeak?
If they were loose, yes it could but I don't follow why it wouldn't squeak all the time. Have you checked power steering or did we ever rule out belt tension?
It does it with no belt on, its def motor related.
I'd like to give it a listen again.
Any thoughts on a flex pipe making the noise?
Just an idea take a floor jack and apply slight amount of lift under motor, trans, exhaust system, turbo piping and anything else then test to see if vibration still exist. You can even jack up each side of car and test.
video was taking inside the car... is the noise louder from inside the car like that? If you think its in the motor have to tried to use a stethoscope while the noise is made to pinpoint what side or area of motor the noise is coming from? i didn't read this whole post by the way. Im actually usually pretty good at finding weird noises in cars. this one is interesting though. sounds to me like a squeaking bearing or something of that nature. could it possibly be the oil drive gear or something that was changed recently due to your prior issues... just a thought
He thinks its the turbo vane contacting the housing, there are rub marks....

For any poor soul following this train wreck, it is not the turbo. (Well it could be but not as convinced now)
How snug should the brake booster be? I can move mine around a decent amount. |
Yea.... It shouldn't move. The four bolts by the brake pedal hold it pretty solid.
AFAIK its riveted to the bracket that attaches to firewall correct?
I know the master is tight, and the firewall bolts are tight. |
How would that move? Throw a strap around it I guess. Mine is tight.
How did you eliminate the turbo as a cause? I thought the bearings had a bunch of play.
