My TPI 305 at TTP Today...

Well, it was a good day. I was upset about taking the car out in the rain, but I have wanted to get the 305 dyno'd since we built it nearly 5 years ago.

Here's the specs on my motor -

- '87 roller-ready 305 from an F-body
- World Products S/R Torquer 305 heads with 1.94/1.50 valves and screw-in studs
- Crane Compucam 2031 (.432/.459 at .050, IIRC)
- aluminum full-roller rockers
- stock intake base
- SLP TPI runners
- self-ported upper plenum to match runners
- stock throttle body with an air-foil
- Edelbrock TES, test-pipe, and Hooker cat-back for exhaust system

So, drumroll please....

The SAE corrected numbers for my car are...

223 hp at 4900 rpm
277 ft/lbs at 3600 rpm

TPI is incredible for torque. I had over 250 ft/lbs from 2600 rpm all the way through 4600 rpm. And, figuring a 15% drivetrain loss gives me near 250 hp at the flywheel. Not bad for a little 305!

Congrats!!!!!

Go 305 + Torque happy TPI baby!

Congrats! :D

thanks for coming out today steve... the car made good power and looked real nice... i was actually suprised on the turnout we had even wtih the horrible weather.

BTW, it's not a % drivetrain loss, it's a fixed loss based on RPM. Very little has to do with initial torque unless there is a ton of flexing going on that builds up more friction... but it's usually very minute. Still decent numbers but bring it to the track and see what she'll do.

Hrm...interesting.....

Thanks for the compliments and input from all. And thanks to Steve (1RawTA), who filled me in on what was happening. I had a great time there yesterday.

Does this get you motivated to finish up the IROC? :) I think yours'll make mo' powah.

My car needs a tune as well. According to the wideband O2 probe, it's VERY lean; like off the charts until 2K RPMs, where it's around 15:1, and then by 4K it's under 14:1. The best it ever gets to is 13.4, which is still lean.

After seeing steves car again im really starting to like older cars with newer suspension, newer wheels and Fuel injected motors in them..
i think they look awesome... and when i see his monte it begins to grow on me more and more.

Thanks man! It makes me feel good when someone appreciates all the blood, sweat, and time that went into putting that car together. And after seeing those LS-based trucks running on the dyno (and making more power than my car), I can't wait to build the bigger motor!
