Oil Question

I have to do an oil change on my sister's 92 RS V6. The manual calls for 5w30, is that what I should run? The car is 13 years old with 131K on it. I was thinking of something a little thicker like a 10w30.

ive always run 10w30 in my cars...once in a while I'll switch to 10w40 in the winter though.

you switch to thicker oil in the winter??? :?

*EDIT*

I just realized I didnt answer the question. haha, sorry. I would run 10w30 if I were you. that seems to be the standard "when in doubt" oil weight.

I use 10/30 in the months where its above freezing pretty much, and 5/30 in the winter. Thats what my manual says to do...

You dont really need anything thicker than 10/30, unless its leaking or burning or something and youre too lazy to fix the problem...10/30 should be fine for warm weather.

I usually run 10/40 or 10/30 during the winter and i've never had a problem. This summer, i'm trying 20-50 ... we'll see how that turns out

i go castrol 5w-30 full synthetic(cause i get for free at work... )...but i would go with 10w-30 on cars with over 125k on them...that at least what i put in those cars at work

10w-30 all year round. On a race motor I'd use 5w-30 or straight weight depending on the temperature. On a brand new rebuild or newer style motor with tighter tolerances I'd use a nothing but Amsoil 5w-30.
