tach issues

What is the tach hooked up to? whatever the rpms are measured off of i think its loose...reason being, when cruising last evening i was watching my tach to gauge RPMs beings my speedo is off...and while at a constant rpm, it would jump up and down like a speedo needle will do if the cable is loose or whatever. i listened to the engine, and it wasnt surging...

is there anything i can do to tighten it up/stop that?

i dont want to swap tachs.

its attached to the group of wires that goes into your distributor. I completely forget which color wire it is though.

did you put in a msd box? if you have an ignition box you can get teh tach signal from that easily as well.

no sir...my ignition stuff is stock...

i checked the connections and theyre all tight...now what?

Tach gets it signal from the coil, so it could be a wire inside the cap. If you pull the coil off the cap you'll see the wires. Double check it's seated in the cap far enough that the wires are making proper contact.
