Shifter options/opinions
I'm looking into a ratchet shifter now that Ziggy suggested manually upshifting during racing because it helps to maintain constant line pressure and its better for the trans...its not a full manual valve body, so I wont be downshifting with it and all that too.
I just want something i can drive normal with, then drop it into 1st and hammer through 2nd and 3rd. I looked into the megashifter, but heard of way too many problems. I was thinking hurst dual gate shifter...I think itd be perfect, and they make a console model for f-bodies. I just need to know if it works with a 700r4. I want something that is a quality piece and that is simple to install. Also, if the time comes when I buy it...does anyone want to volunteer to help me install? |

really? i never had any of those problems. the gear cable did snag once, but that was because i didn't get it in right after working under teh console.
unfortunately i think the choices are rather limited. later tim |
im still kinda hell beant on the dual gate...no one knows about it? they have a console model for an 83-93 f-body...or so JEGS says...
i think the idea on that thing is so cool. |
i have seen them in cars before. they rattle like hell. the gate gets loose and they make a ton of friggin noise. very very annoying.

well thats not cool...
if i went with the megashifter...would you aid in the install by any chance Tim? |

ill re-look into it. do you think the bad things said about the megashifter are just a few bad experiences and most of them are good? or what? |
You'll be fine with the stock shifter. I'm fine with it and I don't consider myself super human when it comes to driving skills. The only shift that takes practice is the 1-2 since 1st gear happens in a blur. Other than that you've got all day to bump the stock shifter up a notch. I set the rev limiter in your bin so you won't blow the bottom end out of the engine. I also think I found the EGR problem and we'll get that figured out asap.

awesome man...my trans should be ready to go sometime next week...so if I'm lucky the car will be pretty much finished by next weekend...if thats the case I'll let you know...sunday is one of my days off.

My vote goes for the Hurst Dual Gate. I've had it in for about a year now and I've had no problems using it. Installation was another story-had to do some modification under the console for proper clearance and is definately a 2 man job so you can adjust the shifter stops properly, but otherwise, it's great. I was never a big fan of the mega-shifter, just don't like the big rubber boot look, but that's just me...

My megashifter works fine. It isnt hard to get in and out of gears. The only thing is if you hit the handle hard it'll spin off or feel like its going to strip. Just gotta make sure you grab it firmly before shifting. Also make sure you grease the living crap out of it and then grease it even more
