Test drove the new Charger R/T
Im art director for an ad agency that does mostly automotive work - so someone from Dodge came by yesterday with a brand new black r/t. I told the guy I wasnt doin any work til he let me take it for a spin - so he threw me the keys (nice).
The negative - First thing I noticed is that the steering was anemic. It felt more like a my brothers 78 cutlass than a brand new performance car. I couldn't feel the road at all - it was way too effortless. Also the interior seemed cheap and uninspired - lots of grey and, um, grey. Oh yeah, and the motor was NO WHERE NEAR LOUD ENOUGH!!! Now onto the good - the Hemi is NICE, power delivery was smooth and the manumatic's upshifts were FAST. Overall the car felt fast but it could definitely use a manual gearbox... i couldnt get the car to within 1000 rpm of the redline even in "manual" mode. I did manage to find the traction control switch tho, and with only a little effort had the tires chirpin. And, although I didnt like the way the steering felt the cars suspension was nice, firm through the corners but smooth over bumps. Also Im a big fan of the cars looks - high beltline and all. So Ill give it a B and wait for this guy to come back with the SRT-8! |
Pretty cool. I was only a fan of the SRT-8 with that cool hoodscoop but I saw a black Charger R/T and I actually thought it looked pretty cool. I haven't driven one of the new LX cars yet. I think I'd be most interested in the Magnum.
