chevy 350
I need a rebuilt 350 that will fit in my 86z and it will be carbed. I need a longblock, and i would like 330hp or more. Let me know if you know of anything i am looking to spend around 2500. thanks

look for a 350. anyone will fit. if its a z28 everything is there for it already, everyhting is a direct bolt on from your old engine (water pump, alternator, p/s, a/c, whatever)...

that would work out just fine pending you had a drivetrain to support the power. the balanced rotating assembly will ensure long life if everything else is right...

I wouldnt buy that motor. You could build it locally and spend half the cash AND get a better motor. I have about $2000 into my longblock and probably coulda spent much less and got the same result. My motor is pretty much:
- 4bolt block with main studs - trw forged flat-tops - a set of mystery I-beam rods - eagle cast steel crank - vortec heads /w good springs and screw-in studs - comp xe274 cam and lifters Add in all the gaskets, machine work and whatnot and it comes out just shy of $2000. Of course, most of these parts were found used. If I was building in a hurry and didnt wanna wait around for deals to pop up I'd probably find a rebuildable complete stock 350, get a set of TRW's, use the stock crank and rods with ARP hardware. You can find vortecs for $300 slap $100 worth of machine work into them, find a used intake or buy one new... new hydraulic cam $100-110 + $80 lifters. Used 750 Holley, junkyard HEI distributor thats gotta recurve kit, add up all the gaskets and nuts-and-bolts and you could have a complete motor for under $2200 that makes 100+HP more than that ebay one. Some 3.73's and a 3000 stall hello mid 12's and daily drivability. |

Collect all the parts yourself then get a machine shop to assemble it. Wont cost too much. Theres a set of vortec heads for sale in the classifieds at a great price... start collectin'

Another option for $2300 is the GM H.O. 350 crate longblock. It is 330HP and can get you up to a 36,000 mile warranty for a few hundred more. Took my fathers GTA to a 13.2 @ 106MPH.

frank bash engines is the way to go, great prices excellent service and his motors just in general freaking ROCK!!!! mine is there now getting a whole new revamp again. this time im adding about 60 hp to the engine alone and its getting built to take 1000 hp in general= motor and a 400 shot of nitrous :twisted:

If you're looking for a motor on the cheap and looking to make less than 400hp with no power adders then talk to Tim. He's probably got a long-block you could pick up on the cheap and get rebuilt. Slap on some vortec heads and a mild bump stick (a Summit special for $80 comes with lifters) and some pushrods is all you need. www.goautocenter.com has specials where they sell new take off parts from crate engines. I think there are pushrods sometimes for sale for like $16 a set. They also have other stuff on the cheap.
What are you looking for and how much work do you want to do? Do you want a turn-key swap or can you save some money by doing some wrenching and installing parts yourself? If it were me, and you're looking to spend the least amount of down-time I'd get a GM crate motor, either the zz4 short-block, goodwrench 350, or the 350ho vortec and go from there. This way you've got a brand new block that you KNOW is good. When you eventually upgrade you'll have a seasoned block ready for some big power. That's the only reason I went with my crate motor. If I had to do it all over again I'd do it the same way only i'd have installed a roller cam before the motor went back in. |
Me & my friend build motors of all kinds, he does it for a living and we do it one the side at night and weekends,i could talk to him,if you need a short block,we have the parts to do a long block too.what are your plans for the motor,every day driver,do you want to keep it looking stock with all your accessories, like p/s,p/b,a/c.what do you have to start with. let me know, we are always willing to help.
