Poor ZR1

:(

At Englishtown today, a ZR1 running the autocross course took a unplanned dive into the lake that bordered the course - through the chainlink fence, here she is...

The owner is the one in the grey shirt & black pants in the last 2.

JESUS MARIMBA!!!!

Too bad that wasn't a Honduh instead of a Vette!!!!

79CamaroDiva 08-08-2005 12:38 AM

Ahh, it just needed a bath. Thats all, it'll be fiiiiiine.

Ian 08-08-2005 12:55 AM

If it was still running when it went below surface, that motor is done. Maybe they'll total it and it will be resold as a flood slavage  . I hate to see that kind of thing happen to such a rare car.

*EDIT*

the nose doesnt look too bad from going through a fence!

camaro2you 08-08-2005 07:09 AM

damn that sucks.

Batman 08-08-2005 07:19 AM

Why did it have to be a ZR-1?

Koll 08-08-2005 07:53 AM

That'll buff right out

foff667 08-08-2005 08:00 AM

well it couldve been worse he couldve... um well he couldve... nope nevermind it really couldnt have been worse  that sux...he mustve gone to the foff driving school for the deaf dumb & blind hehe

The Fixer 08-08-2005 08:42 AM

Wow, that is horrendous! Even if the motor wasn't running when it went through, water was all up through the exhaust and everything. I'd imagine a hydrolocked LT5 would be VERY expensive to fix. Not to mention the hours to dry out the wiring harness and repair the interior. Ouch!

JL8Jeff 08-08-2005 09:12 AM

And he was racing which means it probably isn't covered by insurance.

12secondv6 08-08-2005 11:55 AM

At least it wasn't a neon..... wooooo

Isn't Autocross covered as some type of driving course? I'm pretty sure I read that on one of the local autocross sites.

Either way, that really sucks, but as long as the car got shut off before it really got submerged the engine should be ok (once it is taken apart and dried out).

AHHHHHHHH, my buddys dad was tell me about this. He said he was in the stands ... looked over and seen the crowd form, and didnt know what was up.

PDubs87Z28 08-08-2005 04:04 PM

:omg: I'd probably got smash my head into a brick wall a few times if that was me driving :banghead: ....hope the driver is ok.

The only thing i see wrong is the way hes looking at it... his facial expression looks the same as someone who took a dump in their shorts.

Fasterthanyou 08-08-2005 05:21 PM

I'm not suprised... this is what happens when you get the typical vette owner to drive with some balls. They always screw it up. Remember that c5 a few years back that killed some spectators! Just another vette driver doing what he doesn't do best.
It's a real shame none the less. As for fixing the car, it'll take a while but it's not impossible. Infact it probably got a good cleaning inside and out!

Auto cross is covered, cause thats a parking lot with cones, but this was full on road racing on a road course. Not gonna be covered. that car is ****ed unless he wants to shell out a TON of money to fix it.

BigAls87Z28 08-09-2005 12:10 AM

Whoa....when did Etown open there road course?

****...thats what I get for not going to the track that is 20 mins away in nearly 2 years.

JL8Jeff 08-09-2005 07:29 AM

That water is next to the airport so it's not on the road track side, it's on the pit side. Did they setup a new slalom course in the parking lot on the pit side? Or was this just some idiot showing off in the parking lot and somehow ran through the fence and into the water?

I know the road course isn't open...so i figured they had an autocross track setup in the parking lot.....

The road course isnt open yet, their waiting for more approval crap

They set up a drifting, and auto-x cone track on the pit side, in the far back lots along side of the Jr. Dragster track. You'll usually see people running the cones on Test & Tune nights.

Ian 08-09-2005 06:10 PM

They finished the road course a WHILE ago, so I thought it would have been open by now. Maybe insurance will cover it

Fasterthanyou 08-09-2005 08:42 PM

Okay, this is really strange. I swear I saw them using the track a couple years ago for some event. They had a bunch of slow sedan's for some factory driver session. Maybe that event had their own insurance? I KNOW it's been used... it's not even a real road course. It's a slow course one step above auto-x.
