Good luck! I'm heading out to GI Salvage in a few to scavenge for parts. Let us know how it turns out.

Wear some boots. Plenty of standing water / small ponds between lines of cars. Well, this was as off three weeks ago. With little rain it may be drier by now, but I wouldnt count on it.

Lots of third gen camaro stuff there when I visited.

Fastbird 08-11-2005 12:08 PM

Good luck man! That was a great looking car.

Its on Rt. 46 past Willowbrook. Thats where I go all the time. I got lucky one day and scored a 4th gen camaro! (and smashed its hatch to get in wee!)

GI is always pretty good...unless your fighting over T/A parts with some mexian guy....which it seems i did everytime i went there

whats with you and smashing hatches??

sorry, had to

Untamed 08-11-2005 09:02 PM

So whats the verdict Jon?

And how'd you make out at GI, Steve? Thinking about leaving work early tomorrow and heading over there.

skorpion317 08-11-2005 09:35 PM

as promised, here's the pics:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n317/TA007.jpg
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n317/TA009.jpg

the car's in really good condition, only a couple minor things here and there:

1. Driver's side mirror is cracked on the left side.
2. Weatherstripping on the windshield needs to be sealed up in one small area.
3. A/C needs to be recharged (it gets cold, just takes a while)
4. Front GFX are missing side pieces, not really noticeable unless it's pointed out.
5. Center console armrest needs to be reattached.

The engine and trans are mechanically sound, they run great. The car passed inspection, good till '06. I wasn't impressed with power delivery, but that's because the car has 2.73's in the rear. 3.73's should wake it up nicely :D it does have a lot of low-end torque though. And it is WS6-equipped :)

and here's a little goody i found on rt. 17:

PDubs87Z28 08-11-2005 09:38 PM

thats pretty clean

Untamed 08-11-2005 09:42 PM

Engine bay looks pretty clean. I'm jealous.

It's missing one or more center caps too. When do you plan to make a decision?

skorpion317 08-11-2005 09:59 PM

it's missing three center caps  not a big deal to me. they should be easy to replace.

the paint is brand-new. the car was a trade-in, and the paint wasn't in great condition. the dealer had it totally repainted, and i must say, it is a good job.

i forgot one more little thing...the hood struts don't hold up the hood anymore. i can find those in a junkyard.

i like the car a lot. it's a good blank canvas for me to work with. I have to talk to my dad about it, since he'll give me the green light to get it. i showed him the pictures on my camera right before he left for work, and he told me to keep an eye on it.

Fastbird 08-11-2005 10:01 PM

That's a good looking car man. Just minor things look to be wrong. You got a nice find there!!!

ar0ck 08-11-2005 10:05 PM

2001orangess 08-11-2005 10:35 PM

The Fixer 08-11-2005 10:44 PM

That car looks like a good find! Tell your dad to make a choice quick, cause you don't want that one to slip away.

There were a few 3rd gens there today. Believe it or not, they were actually attempting to PAVE some of that yard today. They moved a bunch of crap around and are really trying to clean it up somewhat. Looks good now, and no lakes to walk through. :)

Savage_Messiah 08-11-2005 11:29 PM

Very cleannnn

Teds89IROC 08-12-2005 12:05 AM

oh hell no, i got first dibs on that.

skorpion317 08-13-2005 01:25 PM

ok, update:

my dad is giving the thumbs-up....as long as I can convince my mom to go along with it. It won't be easy, since she has no interest at all in anything related to cars, nor does she understand my love of cars and modifying/racing them. to her, cars are just machines that were put here to go from point A to point B. she bitched and moaned about my Camaro, but my dad talked her into it. The T/A may be slightly easier for several reasons:

A. Liability-only insurance. The Camaro required full coverage since I took out a loan to get it. The T/A will be bought outright.

B. My performance in school. I've been through 6 classes at Lincoln Tech so far, and I've maintained a 4.0 GPA and a 100% attendance record in every one. Can't get much better than perfect.

C. Steady job. I work 5 to 6 days a week, for 6-8 hours a day. not a great job (seafood dept. at Shop-Rite) but I have a steady income to pay for things.

Hopefully, she'll see the light and agree with my dad and I about the car.

foff667 08-13-2005 02:44 PM

cool, hopefully it will all work out for you.

enRo 08-13-2005 04:10 PM

When I first got my 86 TA, i had to bring up a spec's sheet for my mom, to show her that a 305 LG4 only ran 17's in the quarter  . She really didnt care in the first place, but I told her that my aunt got me into F-bodys cuz she owns an 88 IROC Vert with 25,000 original miles  , and I just love the body styles. She grew into them real quick. My dad could care less, he was a motor-head my age, and owned a 10 sec 65 Belvadier :) Good luck to you, that car has a wicked paintjob.

Tsar 08-13-2005 05:28 PM

Looks nice. Hopefully you'll convice your mom 8)
