Just got 2000 camaro ss
 

Hey I am a new member here and I just recently purchased a 2000 camaro ss about a week ago a big difference from my 2003 mustang gt, I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for mods, I am trying to keep a budget since I am a college student paying for tution but any ideas would be great thanks alot.

thats quite the upgrade, performance wise anyhow. I'd look into getting a lid for the air cleaner assembly. A while back GM high tech performance tested a bunch and SLP made one of the better ones. I think TSP made the other good one, but dont quote me. A cat back would be next on the list. After that, I'd either get headers and a Y-pipe (either catted or off-road) or maybe an LS6 or FAST LSX manifold. Tuning is very important and luckily for you, we have a great LS1 tuner in the group, foff667. thats pretty much all the budget stuff I can think of, even though the FAST manifold costs a decent chunck of change. :lol:

I'm sure the guys who actually own LS1 cars will chime in soon, then you can get a better idea of what everyone else is doing with their cars.

Congrats! Start with the simple ****, free mods, bolt ons, full exhaust, and tuning. Sign yourself up over at www.ls1tech.com , you will find a ****load of useful goodies to make it fly. BTW lemme be the first to say it...

id say skip the full exhaust...stick with a catback, airlid, underchin ram-air, short shifter(if m6), and a set of ****** wheels with drag radials or cheater slicks mounted on em

all told the above should run you around $1000 for all new parts and net your car 12.8-12.9s on a really bad day

i would start with a lid($90), ls6 intake($300), long tube headers & ypipe($550), and tuning to at least delete the codes from installing the intake & headers(I do code deletions for $75 & full tunes for $175)

To get an accurate response, you should share what you have in mind for the car. Â*Do you want a fast street car or a car that will see a lot of track time?

If it's a street car and you want something fun to run around in and will be quick:

Lid, headers with a cutout, and 4.10 gears if it's an M6. Â*Do those simple mods and it'll feel like a totally different car.

I agree with the lid definately, IMO longtubes cost you too much low end grunt then they are worth with stock internals. For the price of a set of longtubes you can do a cam upgrade. But to keep it simple and cheap a lid, cold air kit, a good cat back, and Subframe connectors (not a performance gain but a big help in structural rigidity). But ideally we need to know what you want to do with it to give you a better idea.

Thanks for all your advice really just an everyday car back and forth to college something that can still be realiable I guess trying to find that good combination between everyday driver and a car that still has alot of power.
