Grr, my car won't start.
Okay, no clue what's wrong. Good thing I don't really need to be anywhere for awhile... I drove home from AC last night, car ran just fine. I go to start my car this morning and the damn thing won't kick over. Starter still works, and it wants to crack but just wont kick in. After I try starting it, it'll go "putt putt putt BACKFIRE putt putt." Any ideas?

OPTI!
No I really dont know, at first I figured it was just the battery was dead or something real dumb. But the putting, I have no Idea. The only time I ever expereicned something like that was I was playing around with my intake, and I didnt secure the bottom part of the Elbow on the Throttle Body properly. |
any codes comin on?

Nope, no codes.

I'd start by getting a fuel pressure guage on it to make sure you've got fuel.

Few questions:
Did you try jump starting your car? if you did, did it jump right up? Is it only when it sits over night, or does it happen if you leave the car for a small amount of time? How old is the battery? How old is the serp belt? As for the backfire or stumbling, check your plugs. |
i stopped over the other day...he goes..."can u look at my car" i go "sure"...he gets in...turns the key...and it fires right up...i believe the problem to be operator malfunction

lol. That reminds me of this spring. A buddy of mine has a M6 WS6 and he had spent the winter months polishing stuff under the hood and had hidden most of the wiring. He got in to start the car up and it wouldn't start. It didn't even turn over. He thought he had screwed up some of the wiring. Come to find out, he wasn't pushing in the clutch pedal when turning the key. It had been several months and he just didn't think about it. We laughed pretty hard about that one.

If it's cranking, the battery is good enough. It's not the battery.
Check for spark at a plug or two (pull plug and while someone is cranking the car, ground the plug while it's connected to the wire, and I'd suggest pulling the fuel injector fuses so it doesn't flood). If that doesn't check out, look for spark at the coil. For more things to check, look at the bottom of the following page under "Non DTC and Driveability Diagnosis", right side where it says "Cranks but will not run." http://home.comcast.net/~fastbird/Tr...ech%20Aids.htm |
