Funny dumb people story from today....

I made two timeshots at Island today, just to get a better baseline for the new motor and such for next week in Delaware. At the end of the day I was cleaning up, washing down the car and stuff, and a guy comes over that had introduced himself to me once last year. He brought someone else, dunno if it was his son, buddy, or whatever. The new guy musta been late teens, early 20s, and he had never heard a motor with open headers before.

So the other one asked if I could start it up so he could hear it. I do, and his face was priceless, he was looking at the car, looking at me, back and forth. I kill the engine and he goes wow! do you run NAWS on that? I was like uhhh, no. It runs on methanol. He had no clue what that was, so just nodded.

Then a guy drives by in a new 2005 Mustang GT. He asks me "is your car faster than that Mustang?" It took ALL I had not to laugh. I say 'yeah, that mustangs stock' His buddy had to explain to him what stock meant. THen I tell him that the new mustang probably roughly runs 8 seconds in the 1/8th mile, I run 7s in the 1/4, so by the time he's half track, I'm done. So then he asks me 'What about older Mustangs, like from the 60s? Are you faster then them too?' I tell him even a built up streetable mustang wouldn't usually run quicker than high 11s, low 12s, and thats pretty quick for them. He goes, 'no way, faster than event he old ones, like the back-in-the-day Mustangs??' I was ROLLING inside, but kept a pretty straight face.

Ahhh.. I love noob's.

You wish your car was faster than j0n's tore-ass! j/k :P

Lol that is great!

I had some guy at a gas station (Drove an import of course) as me if I ran "NAWS" I looked at him and just gave him the look like "Get out of my sight before i kill you" and said no. He then asked me if i was trying to be like the Dukes of Hazzard (I am in the Orange car BTW) and I said well, if the car was 5 years newer, a Dodge Charger, and a hardtop that yeah I guess I would be like the Dukes! But went on to explain that I dont slide across my hood NOR get in the car without opening the doors.

If you had stickers and a wing he would have believed you.

</shrugs> I'm a racing newbie and would probably ask similar questions. I probably know more than the next soccer mom in a minivan, but thats not saying much.

Chalk me up to the "enthusiast who spent too much time on car history instead of mechanics or race terms" category.

Be kind to those who actually show an interest by asking questions, rather than talking out their ass like they know something. I have far more respect for the kid who knows a little car history and asks questions, than the dork who drops a few words like he knows his **** then argues the point.

I agree about that, but when they are being an ass about it I have no patience.

If he was asking about my camaro, I wouldnt have thought it was funny, its a legitimate question. but to stand in front of a car that looks like this
http://euphrates.wpunj.edu/students/...ym/burnout.jpg

and ask me if its faster than this
http://www.mustangsmustangs.net/ford.../H.ford05a.jpg

is pretty funny in my eyes.

bad64chevelle 09-26-2005 10:42 AM

Yeah I would have to agree that is a pretty dumb question. I mean maybe if the Dragster was running a 4 cylinder, but then again when the car was running and you feel the exhaust in your chest and compare it to a GT stang, its funny.

Untamed 09-26-2005 08:36 PM

What, thats not a go-cart? Aren't those bicycle wheels?

J/K

Yeah, ok, I see your point.

Ian 09-26-2005 10:41 PM

so you're telling me that your straight up drag car is faster than the 05 Stang GT! I'm gonna have to call ******** on that one. the new mustang makes 300 horsepower and has 3 valves per cylider. It's probably even faster than the god motor (ls1). If you raced one of those new mustangs, you'd be seeing tail lights...PERIOD!

BigAls87Z28 09-26-2005 11:41 PM

Dont you know that the 3rd valve in the new Mustang is a VTECK Valve?? HELLLLLLLLLLLLLO!!
I thought you knew about cars....

Tsar 09-26-2005 11:56 PM

VTAK owns joo!!!

jims69camaro 09-28-2005 08:21 AM

i'd have to agree. melissa showed great patience not busting up laughing in the guy's face. he was asking serious questions, and probably has never spent any time at a drag strip, so he needed a frame of reference. i would rather get asked questions like that then, "hey, that thing got a hemi?", when i am driving the '69.
