Anyone know where I can find heavy-duty T-56's?

when i build my monster Camaro in the next year or so, I'd like to have a T-56 in it. Problem is, from what i hear, they don't like huge amounts of power and torque. I've seen some that have been built to withstand the abuse, but they were mostly custom jobs. anyone know where I can find a shop or builder who can help out with my problem?

check around on LS1tech, they have a few members with built T56's. also give TTP a ring, i seem to remember reading that they do good built ups

Mines by no means Heavy-Duty, buts its an OEM+ Rockland.
It has steel internals, over aluminum. Â*Basically everything thats common to break in the OEM T-56 has been replaced with upgraded internals.

i checked out g-force already, the transmissions aren't strong enough for what i'm building. they're only rated to 900 hp and 800 lb./ft. of torque.

FLP offers pretty beefy transmissions check out their Level 5 4L80E

Got a forced induction or nitrous truck that is making serious power? Is your truck in the 10s or even faster? Then our Level 5 4L80E is for you. Currently the fastest LS1 truck in the world(10.089 @ 136.43 mph) is running one of our transmissions. Making over 1000 foot pounds of torque and weighing nearly 5000 pounds this truck is driven daily and raced almost daily as well with out a single transmission failure. If you want the best transmission possible for your truck look no further than our Level 5 4L80E. $3495

there is one HUGE difference. yours will be force fed, matt said N/A. the drivability difference will be gigantic!

skorpion317 10-27-2005 09:56 PM

my car will not be N/A. it will be turbocharged. if my calculations are correct, it should have slightly over 1000 horsepower and 1000 lb./ft. of torque at the crank.

with that much power you really only have two choices:

1- a 'glide
2- a lenco

what do you plan on doing with this car anyway? shouldn't you be saving some money since you'll be fresh out of school?

i want to have the car done within a year or two. I figure if i don't have it done before I start looking for a place to live and all the other things that come with life, I'll never be able to do it. So i want to build the car first, that way i can devote my time and money to the other stuff later on.

I plan on having it for a weekend car, and for the occaisional trip to the track 8)

Rockland standard gear and D&D transmissions are very nice.

Pampered-Z 10-31-2005 08:45 AM

I don't think your going to find much more from a manual then about 900-1000HP. There are a few 9 seconds 4th gens using an upgraded T56 and not having problems, but who knows how long they will last.

I also don't think there are many trans that will hold up due to the wieght on our cars. Even a Lenco will die in a 3000+ LB car. Not sure if Baxter was running a TH350 or glide in his 97Z. But he was around 1300HP and I know he hurt a few trans.
