1 5/8th or 1 3/4??
For the 72, im looking at headers, and Ive narrowed it down to Hookers Comp headers. I dunno if I should go for the 5/8th or go balls out to 3/4?? Which one!! Is it worth the extra cash for the larger headers?

what motor is in it? 350 right? Heads/cam? or just a stock 350...
|
from what I can tell, stock 350 with edel carb and intake.
|
i would say 1 5/8

If your not planning more mods in the future then 5/8, but it you think you might do more then go with the 3/4. You don't want to end up with headers that are too small for your mods and sell then for pennies on the dollar just to rebuy the bigger headers.

I have thought about putting on a set of Vortec heads perhaps, and maybe a larger bump stick...but not sure if I want to do all that. As it sits, the car doesnt move much, and I want more power. Im thinking 1 3/4 thinking ahead..

First off, I started when I was still going to college in Mass. I really didnt have that much time to work on it.
2nd, with a carb, there looks to be less things to break. 3rd It was my first time with no one helping me and zero knowlage 4th I didnt devote all my free time, as many of you do, to fixing the car. and last but not least, I DID finish it, I just kept breaking bolts and got sick and tired of fabbing up stuff to make the PS pump brackets work. so **** you Bill ANYWAY, I figured that it wouldnt be much difference, but now that I look at it, I rather be safe then sorry and spend the few bucks now instead of spending it 2 times down the road. |
if you are looking to upgrade i think you are on the right track planning for the 3/4's. i would suggest spending money on a crate motor if you want more power. for the cost of buying heads, having them cleaned up, buying a cam kit, and buying/matching your intake to the heads and cam you will be with in the price range of a GMPP crate motor with a 3yr warranty

I'd go with the 1 5/8's. 1 5/8 will support a ton of power... So long as you arent using a power-adder or making big upper-RPM HP you'd be more than fine with the smaller ones.
|
1 5/8 will be plenty unless you plan on going bonkers with 500+HP. In fact 1 3/4 may hurt you with loss of back-pressure.
