My Friends.... (something i'm not proud of)
 

my friend julie is a great girl. she is very religious, teaches her own sunday school class, does well in school, doesn't do stuff a normal teenage girl would do. but the poor girl got into an accident today out of her own stupidity.

my cousin sam has a GLI Jetta 1.8T and drives like an ******* (he got 19 tickets in about 12 months and is awaiting his letter of liscence suspension). him and his buddy john GTI VR6 were racing down rt 18 by rutgers. julie was following them and julie has an accord v6 which is faster then both of their cars. so she decided to be slick and pass both of them doing 100+ she of course loses it around a turn and smacks the rear drivers side tire against a curb breaking every suspension part you can think of. thank God she is alright.

i on the other hand am glad this happened cause i am sick of them racing and driving like dicks. i hope they learned their lessons. especially with an inexperienced girl following them. man i really hope they learn their lessons cause at those speeds if they had hit anything else it would have been bad. i dont even wanna think about that

i cant stand **** ups without skill that do stupid **** that could put others at risk. i sometimes do things that others (especially my wife when shes with me) may think is dangerous but for me its not because i know how to drive and i know the limitations of my car and myself.

the only thing i can add to that is always be aware of the dickheads around you. while you are in control of your vehicle, you cannot possibly control someone else's. expect that the other person is going to **** up and you'll keep yourself even safer.

this is the second post about someone's lack of judgment. they are both young people. all i can hope is that they have learned from the experience and one day have the chance to become old people.

jim- thats why i posted it, so hopefully someone else on this board can learn from her mistake. is much as we think we know our cars, we aren't perfect. i hope no one forgets that. now if only i can get my cousin sam to start driving sane. i tried everything and he wont listen. he almost killed this poor girl and thats not even enough for him :?

Are they ****ing brain dead?

I'm less than 5 mins from route 18 right now. There is construction EVERYWHERE, the road is rough, it turns, its got lights, yada yada yada, everything that makes a BAD place to do stupid ****. I hope she learned her lesson, and i hope mommy and daddy dont buy her a new car. That way she can learn the value of the piece of machinery that gets her back and forth, and can kill her if she lets it.

I was just on rt 18. If I or any of my friends would have been involved, I don't think your friend would have been so lucky.

I used to do stupid stull like that, but thankfully nothing ever happened and no one ever got hurt or damaged their vehicles. I'm past that stage now.

It doesnt make sense at all to do crap like that on the streets. If you want to impress people with how fast your car is, go to the track, you'll have a MUCH larger audience and you'll have more fun. Plus....ITS SAFE!!!!

And to all those guys that say they never race at a track, thats because their cars werent built well enough to pass tech.

I realize there are people on this board who do street race, some a lot more than others :lol: . even if you built your car yourself and you know every inch of it like the back of your hand, anything can happen. a valve lock can pop out when your redlining in third and drop the valve, bounces around and eventually the motor locks up. you're going over 100 mph and now you have no control over the car. I pray that never happens to anyone, but as jakes story proves, anything can and will happen on the street.

Sorry to hear this (again) Jake, just glad to hear that everyones ok. Now we only have to teach a fellow Fbody(V6) owner this lesson before it gets real bad.

jake, from personal experience as well as anecdotal evidence, people do not learn from other's mistakes. it's a rare occasion that people learn from their own mistakes, much less than from someone else. there is no way to teach someone a near death experience, they have to experience it themselves and then pay heed to it when they are behind the wheel.

what keeps me from antics on the street? sure, i'll mash it from a stop light or become a little aggressive every once in a while, but all under control and never on surface streets where there are pedestrians and children.

i was a little hellion when i was younger. my grandmother lived on a hill, and her street T'd with another, busier street, but we still used to ride that big wheel down the hill into the street below. one time i got caught, hit by a car doing about 40 (which i must've been doing that much or more) and all i remember is a pain in my chest and a headache. i was 8 years old. i've had several near death experiences like this one and still i don't fear death. about the only thing that keeps me sane is the thought of hurting someone else or damaging someone else's property, and killing a child like i was almost killed when i was 8 is at the top of the list.

so you see, this is why i say i hope they learned something.

honestly i dont know anymore. instances like these make me hope they do cause you think about the what ifs...

exactly. and you never know what is going to pop up in front of you. it could be a kid chasing a ball, and they're going 100+ and lose control, smack a curb and the kid's dead. no one will be interested in how the driver thought he was a "good driver".

i just thought of something... tell him you don't want to go to his funeral. if he comes back with the "i'm a good driver" bit, tell him good drivers die everyday from things they can't control. and they kill other people, too, that are just innocent bystanders.

there are three or four fatalities on the roads near me every year. and of the 300+ accidents that happen over on 37, if you asked all of them i bet they all would say that they thought they were good drivers.

he's got to stop before he kills himself or someone else.

sorry to hear about your friend. maybe she got caught up in the moment. well thank god she is ok, it could have been a lot worse. a car is replacable and life isnt'

i too have cut down racing on the street. not that i did it a lot before anyway. but now i have a feeling of responsibilty. what if i caused an acciedent, by weaving in and out of traffic. all the litttle things that can happen need to be considred when people race. however, many people don't. for the past 2 years or so, i race other cars only at night on empty highways. even in best conditions, things can go wrong. you can never be to cautious when it involves another life.

nowadays, i tend to race at the track.....

turns out she had a rear tire blowout and couldnt control it cause she was going too fast and it kicked out on her cause she was turning. o well, she's fine and lesson's learned on her part at least so i guess thats all that matters
