Weight Reduction?????

Does anyone know how much weight is in a set of ground effects on a 84' t/a, i'm thinking of taking mine off before i prep the car for paint. i know there's a ton of holes to fill but the lighter the car the faster it will be. JR1.

jr, doesn't your car lift high enough. I thought you were trying to put weight IN the front end. not take it out. I say make the ground effects out of lead! :)

just a quick question...is your fuel cell in the back or the front of that thing?

NJSPEEDER 11-24-2005 12:13 AM

3rd gen ground effects weigh between 22 and 35lbs depending on year and if you include the spoiler. :)
i think your car will have the fiberglass side skirts. that would weigh a bit less than the later "tall" gfx.

NJSPEEDER 11-24-2005 01:24 AM

all of that is including the weight difference from going to a non-gfx bumper cover set as well. :)

well the foam aero spoiler would be the heaveiest part of the late 80's ground effects packages, but the 84 should have the straight low wing, which weighs much less, the side skirts for the 85-90 style are very light, not rigid fiberglass like the camaros, and then on the 85 i think it just has the front lower wrap, not the full lower airdam like the 85-90 with the fogs and all. i would say the 84 setup is at most 20lbs. but without actually weighing it all, who knows i may be wrong.
