Code Reading

How can I find any codes off a 1995 LT1 OBDI car?

JL8Jeff 12-07-2005 10:58 AM

Check the port under the dash. If it's the OBDI style 12 pin port I can read it with that AutoXray I have for sale. If it's the OBDII style 16 pin port then it would need another cable.

it should be the obd2 style but uses an obd1 computer

And all you need to do is jumper the wires from the 16-pin ALDL to the 12-pin OBD-I scanner connector:

even my isuzu was a bitch cause it was a 95. 91-94 got a obd-I port and 96+ got a obd-II port. us 95 boys didnt even get a port. i needed to tap two wires together to see how many times the check engine light flashed. (i think i fried the ecu in the process.)

foff667 12-09-2005 02:26 PM

yeah but its a friggin isuzu who cares?

IROCZBeast 12-10-2005 10:45 AM

my SES light is on, how much does one of those things cost that reads my trouble codes and where can I get one?

JL8Jeff 12-10-2005 11:27 AM

If you're talking about your 96, just go to Autozone and they will read it for you for free. There are cheap code readers on Ebay for $29-$49 but why bother even spending that. If you plan on spending any money at all I would put it towards some form of actual scanner that shows real time data and can show codes. If you have a laptop, there are several programs for reading the computer but you need a cable to plug into the OBDII port.

last time i was there they scaned it, then went inside pluged it in something and then gave me a print out. It had the code on it and little explanation.

Autozone only does OBDII cars. Alex's car has OBDI, with an OBDII style connector. They wouldn't be able to read codes from his car.

This is why I always carry a paper clip with me. Jump the termials, count the flashes.

Autozone and pepboys and places like that scan for free..but they wont fix it...

In fact a kid i knew when i went to LTI that worked for pep boys said that if a customer comes in and they scan the computer they usually tell them "yeah this is your code..we cant fix it"...
