Saleen builds a Sport Truck. the S331

The first report has returned from L.A. and it comes from Joel who attended the Saleen press conference at which the company unveiled its Sport Truck S331. The F-150 features Ford’s 5.4L SOHC V8 and a unique, patented high-flow Saleen Series VI integrated twin-screw supercharger, which enables the motor to produce 450 hp and a monster 500 lb-ft of torque. A non-S/C version will also be available that will make 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Read on for more pics and info on Saleen's super truck...
In addition to the engine treatment, the S331 gets twin side pipes, a Racecraft suspension with linear-rate coil-overs around the company’s N2 shocks, a tubular anti-roll stabilizing bar and urethane pivot bushings. Those wheels measure 23 inches in diameter and feature seven fat spokes.

Inside the S331 Saleen has wrapped the seats in double-sticch leather and thrown in race-style pedals, integrated silver panels and bezels, as well as a twin-gauge pod display above the center console.

With no SVT Lightning on dealer lots at the moment, this looks to be the only Blue Oval-badged performance pickup able to take a Dodge Ram SRT-10 to task. Saleen says it will come with a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty and list in the high $30K range for the NA version and high $40K for the supercharged version.

Due to the design of the new F150, there is no standard 2dr cabs.

if someone is so concerned about weight why are they buying a truck?

BigAls87Z28 01-05-2006 02:33 AM

Werd. Many, hell most people ragged on Chevy when they released the Silvy SS, bringing more practicality out of it with AWD and crew cab. It was laughed at as people thought it was an attempt at the SRT10 and SVT L.

cool

Another dumb move. GM started it with the Silverado SS so of course Ford has to follow along. Who wants an extended cab weighing over 4600 lbs trying to be a sports car? Brain surgeons and rocket scientists? The manufacturers are forcing this stuff on us and people are eating it up like morons. Whatever happened to the mini trucks? You can't get an S10 standard cab any more and the Toyota Tacoma is now almost a full size truck.
:soapbox:

i like the look of the new styling, but i agree about the weight thing too.
saleen is a performance company, and the SVT lightning was marketed as a performance truck.
people laughed at the silverado SS because MAGAZINES said it was supposed to be GM's answer to the lightning. the media created an inaccurate image of what GM's goals were for the truck, all GM wanted to do was be the first company to truely move into the yuppy/ute/ pick-up market. it could do medium duty work very well and still be comfortable enough for spoiled suburban kids to ride to a soccer game in.

i would like to see what the new ford truck looks like without all the body cladding and stuff on it, think that would detract from the lines too much?
