Waht do you think of the Camaro concept???

i was just wondering what everybody thinks of the new car?

http://img314.imageshack.us/img314/7...cept8oo5pj.jpg

personally i think it looks great. i have changed my new car shopping plans for spring and i will just be saving up for the fifth gen instead.

Ian 01-09-2006 07:46 PM

well, I guess its pretty obvious what I picked.

It has the potential to be an outstanding car, but I dont like how linear the top of the fenders are, I hate the side view mirrors, and I think the grille is too open and at too much of an angle. I actually kinda like the rear end, but I'm a little uncertain if I like the exhaust tips. I think the roof line is about an inch too low.

thats all I can think of right now, I'm sure I'll chime in more as this thread gets rolling

Ian 01-09-2006 07:52 PM

I dont like how tall the body is. I also dont like the huge wheels. yeah, 20's and 22's look good on bigger cars and trucks, but on a pony car like the camaro? Another gripe I have is that the car just doesnt look all that fast. first gens look fast, second gens look fast, third gens look fast and fourth gens look fast. This fifth gen concept just doesnt look that enticing to me right now. It looks a little too boxy too. I know its supposed to be retro, but hell, even the 69 camaro had more curves than that!

90FormulaWS6 01-09-2006 08:12 PM

um that car looks fast... did you watch the video and see the stance?

JL8Jeff 01-09-2006 08:16 PM

I think the front grill area needs to be softened up and I agree that the wheels are too big for a Camaro. Maybe 18's will look a lot better. But it definitely has a lot of potential and I like it. I don't know why so many people are hung up on the retro thing. If you want a car to look like a 69 Camaro, then go out and buy a 69 Camaro. I'd rather see a new concept like they've done.

Only problem I have is deciding what color...

no, I didnt see the video, but I can see the stance fron the pictures. The car looks like its carrying around a lot of un-needed sheetmetal. I would like it better if it were more lean.

a good example of what I mean is looking at the C5 and C6. the C5 is a great car, but when you look at it next to the C6, you can see that the C6 is tighter, has a better stance and just flat out looks better. Thats what I was looking for in this concept and I just dont see it.

Dont get me wrong, I still think this car has a bright future, but if I were the head designer, I'd start making it look less like a chrysler product.

nj85z28 01-09-2006 08:38 PM

does it have a hemi??

chevyt454 01-09-2006 08:47 PM

I'm gonna take some defensive driving classes to shave some points off my licence so someone will insure me for one!

enRo 01-09-2006 08:49 PM

The taillights need to be redone... its like rectangle vette lights gone bad.. If it looks a bit more like the first gen tails I'd definately sell my car for one. Doesn't matter tho, cuz if it does come out, that car is in my driveway.

nj85z28 01-09-2006 09:01 PM

itll prolly be so watered down and crappy, not to mention a hybrid by the time it comes out in 09

Savage_Messiah 01-09-2006 09:23 PM

Put me in the "starting to save now" column

LS1Hawk 01-09-2006 09:26 PM

You guys have to remember this is a just concept. They are always extravagant (remember what the 99 GTO concept looked like?). What we get with a production could be somewhat or a lot different. And we don't even know if it will make it to production yet. Lutz said himself in the vid that all it is right now is a concept. (Although, I strongly believe it will be produced.) It even has retro cues. Obviously GM listened when everyone spoke out about the GTO not having any. I like it so far. It finally shows GM is starting to pay attention to the style of their cars. Will I buy one? I'll make that decision once I see a prototype for a production model.

i love it, i wish the nose of the car was a little less pronounced and shark like though.

Needs more refining. The front end doesn't look right to me.

Same with the rear end. It looks like a 5 year old designed it. Everything in between is fine though.

Scorched SS 01-10-2006 08:27 AM

I like it front to back...
the front end does a great job of looking like a camaro w/o being overtly 69. The fog lights and lower nose treatment make it look modern and aggressive. Im not sold 100% on the scoop in the front, i think a functioning cowl induction hood would work clean it up.

The profile (while it will definitely change, think 2 more inches of glass everywhere for headroom sake) is very modern chevrolet (think edgy like the new vette) but the fender flares and arches over the rear wheels all say full time muscle car.

The rear actually looks more like the 67 RS with the 4 red lights than the 69 that they have said its so heavily based on. I think that its for the better, the 67 was cleaner in the back than the 69.

For all who say the tires are too big, this is a concept, right? Figure base model V6 will wear 17's, Z28s 18's, and the SS might have 18, 19, or maybe in back, 20s.

I cant wait to see this thing in person. I bet complaints will melt away once you see it close up. NYIAS is only 3 months away!!!

from the looks of it, the profile will stay pretty much the way it is. Bob Lutz is a very tall man and didn't have any trouble getting out of it on stage.

as far as the rims, Lutz said a production model is more likely to get 18" fronts and 19" rears (i'm assuming he meant the performance models). the base cars will most likely get 17s all the way around.

turbo96z28 01-10-2006 08:38 AM

should we get something together for NYIAS???

trashman01 01-10-2006 09:38 AM

u kno the mirrors will change, i mean look at the SSR the mirrows on the prototype were up on the top side of the windsheild, which i thought was kinda cool, but procuting they were moved down and used the stadard issued GM ones

SteveR 01-10-2006 09:39 AM

I like the sides and roof line a lot, the interior drawings look really nice, but the nose looks like there's a mile of clearance between the bumper and the ground. I say if they can drop the nose and give it a little meaner stance, I'll pick one up for sure.

qwikz28 01-10-2006 09:51 AM

my only issue is the similarity between the camaro/mustang/challenger. this is something i cannot get over and the main reason i got a camaro was to be different from the 1 million mustangs in my town. so much for indiviuality.

but i do like the 1st gen retro styling. and i also dont see why everyone hates the front end. i think its amazing!

What else is new... lol

Billy I think theres an old thread about NYAIS... when its clsoer though someone will put something up. Definately gonan get a group together.

NP_00'T/A 01-10-2006 01:02 PM

I really don't like it its looks like they did a half ass job peicing together other cars to form this one. In my opinion some of the concepts that other people drew absolutly look 100% better then this. First off the front of the car looks like the rear of a new catallac with the pointy nose not to mention its not sleek like a sports car its more boxy like a luxury car. What ever happened to the nice curves in the hood like we have in our cars now ? Second the side scoops look like they ripped off a mustang and the mirrors just looks stupid. Also are the wheels really 20+ inches ( i think i read that some where)? I'll stick to the older cars cause this one is fugly i can only hope they change alot before production.
