http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/5272/picture1624qo.jpghttp://img79.imageshack.us/img79/5272/picture1624qo.jpgWhat am I missing? Its something to do with smog or something It blew up in my face, because Of a clogged cat.

NJSPEEDER 01-12-2006 05:17 PM

that looks like a line from the A.I.R. pump. is there an accessary mounted below your alternator?
there should be a smog pump there with lines that lead up to the tubes on the exhaust manifolds.

84HOtransam 01-12-2006 05:47 PM

the air pump and the huge mass of plastic vavles and hoses it connects to.

:-x is there a way that I can pass inspection with out it?

deadtrend1 01-12-2006 08:00 PM

yes ....

WayFast84 01-12-2006 08:04 PM

How

deadtrend1 01-13-2006 04:52 PM

the air system is only functional for about 15 seconds when you start you car when its cold. after that it turns itself off basically

V 01-13-2006 04:55 PM

when i built my monte motor, i thought about keeping the A.I.R. system, then i wised up after a few seconds and in the trash it went(well not really, i still have it, everything always for sale, lol) I just had the setup programme dout of the computer so it wouldnt look for it, and i'm running a plain cat without the air tube into it.

he doesnt need to do any programming at all

V 01-13-2006 05:14 PM

well even though its an 84, it should still have the electronic quadrajet and ignition controlled with a computer, but i dont know if the emissions system is connected in any way

WayFast84 01-13-2006 05:20 PM

but would the car smelling like **** be because of the valve seals?

WayFast84 01-13-2006 05:23 PM

if i got headers with out air would I still be able to use the egr now that I know its not the one that blew up?

no the computer doesn't get effected when the AIR is removed on LG4's. Remove the pump and valves, cap the exhaust tubes and cat tube, then zip tire the wires back. Hell, sinces its a 84, no new belt is needed, just take the one off that goes to the pump. 88's and up with the serpentine setup, require a new belt, but everything else in removal is the same. On OBD I LT1's, you can take the AIR pump off with no worries. With the OBD II LT1's, 96 and up, the AIR pump must be disabled in the PCM after its removed.

completely irrelivent to the AIR system. Valve seals cause smoke at startup.

Dont understand what the hell you just asked about blowing up, but YES. EGR does not run through the AIR tubes, or the headers for that matter on your car. On my LT1, there is a EGR tube attached to the header. On your Gen1 motor ... there is not.

WayFast84 01-14-2006 11:26 AM

Ok Ill just get new headers w/o out the air! I hope I wont have a problem passing smog!

deadtrend1 01-14-2006 12:45 PM

you could by them with AIR and get pipe caps from home depot, incase you want to install the air system later anyways.

WayFast84 01-15-2006 02:30 PM

Ok Im ordering the headers, intake manifold again...O yeh and a cut out:twisted:

84HOtransam 01-15-2006 11:48 PM

which headers?..you wont pass smog with a cutout
