LS3 & LS9 motors
so al what have you heard? From what I've been told the LS3 is going to be the vette version of the trucks new 6.2 motor but the vette version will produce ~450 at the wheels & be the replacement to the base vettes now ls2 motor. The LS9 is rumored to be a supercharged version of the LS7? Pushing some 600 hp in an end of decade ZO6 i assume? Oh I hear the LS3 heads should be able to swap onto LS2's & provides ~350cfm on the intake side which is just downright insane for a stock 2 valve head. Anywayz anyone have any further info to add or correct feel free...I like the sound of an LS3 fbody though hehe

the more i think about the new camaro possibly making production, the less i want to build my SS, and just save up for a 5th gen...and then worrying about modding that when the time comes.

i heard rumors of the "ls9" going into the "corvette SS" around 08 i thought i heard |
well IF the camaro comes into production ( i hope it does..) you have to worry about the screw ups with the first few years and then If you mod it you have make sure it doesnt void the waranty
|
Yeah, the LS3 is going to become the next level above the LS2. The 6.2 that is in the escalde uses a combo much like how the LS2 became.
LS3 uses the same head as the LS7, just without all that fancy CNC machining. Offset roller rockers and the 18* heads (I belive?). The LS9 is rumored to be a supercharged LS3 making over 600. And there will never be a Vette SS. |
ok, i havent been up to date with ls2's etc so please bear with me. i saw that it was said the LS3 heads will bolt onto the LS2's and the ls3 heads have bigger ports valves etc, or soemthign like that, now my question is...will the ls3 head bolt onto an ls1? i have no idea, like i said i never cared to learn much about the ls2 vs. the ls1. I ask because i'm building a stroker LQ4 block and looking for heads. if the ls3 heads would work, should i consider those, or would they not even fit? also, i will be supercharged so should i try to get iron heads in the first place, like i said, bear with me.

the entire series of LS engines can swap parts back and forth. like Al said, the LS3 heads are the same as the LS7 heads from the Z06, just without the extra CNC machine work done. |
so if the parts are interchangeable from the LS1 to the LS2, why is the LS1 a gen III and the LS2 a gen IV?
|
Gen IV is made differently. While parts swap, the casting is different, such as the placement of the knock sensors(outside of the engine instead of under the Intake on the Gen III), the revised oil gallies, and a few other moddifcations of the Gen III block.
Im surprised that there is a LS2 replacement already. It feels we just got to know you, oh mighty LS2. I think the LS2 is a camshaft away from making it a super engine. |

just askin... im not going crazy, but there was a rumoro of a vette ss for the future wasnt there?? |

there still is a rumor floating around. my take on it is the Vette "SS" is just the next gen Z06 due to get the supercharged LS9. probably see it in 2008. |

are we talking mostly stock to 600hp????
or are we giving in to cam, intake, head work (although i don't know how much etter those heads can get), exhaust, and tune????? |
Well, a little background for those of you who have missed it or have not read.
The LS7 was originaly supposed to be a 6.3 or 6.4 liter engine. And that engine would just make the 500hp mark, but engine durability test coming up bad, and the ALMS coming down on the Corvette team, saying that they can either drop performance to match the production car, or the production car can match the race car, Team Vette put teh same equipment into a larger 7.0 engine, the same size engine that can be found in a C6-R. All the stuff they put into that 6.4, they put into the 7.0 and easily cleared the 500 mark. And they put it in a light weight car, and the most amazing thing I think, about the Z06 is that there is no gas-guzzler tax on it. I would venutre that its the only 500hp+ sports car that doesnt have it. |

655 na hp at the motor...probably high 500's at the wheels. |
|
Yeah, LS7 has a lot of potential. They are making 505hp and the car runs clean and lean. If they cammed it and retuned it, they could put the GT away, even with a pulley.

I'd venture to say you're probably right which is nothing short of amazing. |
