Turbo help
ok i posted up on ls1tech for info on making a turbo kit from truck manifolds. not much hot parts left after the manifolds so it should be an easy job for someone who knows what they are doing. some guy jumped in and offered to make me the hot and cold side parts including the truck manifolds for 2k. is it just me or is that alot of money? this does not include the piping for an intercooler or any turbo or turbo related parts, just piping. thoughts?

anyway you slice it a decent/reliable turbo setup will cost you 6-10 grand start to finish...even if it was cheap theres still alot of work that would need to go into making your car run right.

turbo kit = expensive i was originally gonna do one in the next year or so....but instead i think i might end up doing forged head cam engine based off gms new alum 6.2 block they put in the new tahoe but its gonna wait at least a year and a half 2 years cuz theres nots of other stuff i wanna do first... but to answer your question 2k does seem a lil steep

thats what i wanna do. run low boost for the first year until i get used to the extra power. and then up the boost and add a intercooler later |
looks like a cool set up cant wait to see how it comes out.....dont know if ur intrested but a guy i know who works right around my area has a twin turbo 02 camaro ss with a custom turbo setup from cartek.... maybe if u look at his or talk to cartek they could help ya out too

have you thought about what your doing for a fuel system? BOV? Tuning? your stock injectors probably will have a hard time keeping up with your needs & with a stock timing nearing 20-25* you'll need to adjust that as well as a bunch of other tables more then likely to keep it safe. Isn't there a thing about project undertakings where you take your origonal budget & triple it or something?

scroll to the bottom, they have mock up engines made outa plastic or some such material......much lighter than messing around with a broken block |

stupid +2 cylinder mod......yeah, real stupid....... |
so jake, where is the turbo gonna mount? In front of the motor? If it mounts there, wont there be issues with radiator clearance? I'm just guessing there would be but I could be wrong, I havent spent a lot of time under the hood of LS1 cars.

ps- i did a search on ls1tech and a guy running a stock ls1 threw 11psi to the stock motor for a dyno run and did 700+ to the wheels. i am hoping for 500+ to the rear wheels which is looking quite promising :) |
