dragstrip rules in jersey

whats the fastest u can run without a roll bar or all that safety stuff? 11s or 10s

79CamaroDiva 02-08-2006 08:11 PM

11.50 in a hard top.

EDIT: Thats an NHRA rule, not a jersey rule.

BonzoHansen 02-08-2006 08:12 PM

Is that for a bar or a full cage? Drive shaft loop?

"...all that safety stuff..."

79CamaroDiva 02-08-2006 08:14 PM

thats a bar.. full cage is at 9.99, loop is at 12.99

i'm not gonna write off the whole rule book for you

BonzoHansen 02-08-2006 08:21 PM

Thanks, just curious. I thoguht they lowered some of the numbers. 12.99 sounds the same as it always has been. I am so out of the drag racing loop. :)

Hey, Island got a little mention in the latest Hemmings Muscle Machines.

Mike 02-08-2006 08:30 PM

12.99 for a loop
11.49 for a 6 pt cage and some other stuff
im not fast enough to care about the rest yet

NJSPEEDER 02-08-2006 08:45 PM

11.49 is a 6pt bar, fire jacket and 5pt harness i think.
i think all of the stuff for 9.999 and quicker applies to any car that traps at 135 or higher now too

camaroracer1992 02-08-2006 10:07 PM

oops my car should be 135+ this season hah, looks liek im getting booted haha

79CamaroDiva 02-08-2006 11:12 PM

135+ is typically 9.99 or better anyhow, unless you leave soft off the line. You'll also need to get a license.

OneFast383 02-09-2006 06:19 AM

if u dont have that stuff and u ran what happens they just kick u off? im not there yet.... im at 11.60s but should be a little lower by the time i come up in may

Tru2Chevy 02-09-2006 11:37 AM

Yea, depending on how close you are they may let you slide just a little bit. But you won't get in any trouble or anything, they will just ask you to leave until you have the required safety equipment.

79CamaroDiva 02-09-2006 11:57 AM

yeah, what he said... if you're teetering around the 11.49-50 range, they probably wont give you a hard time. But if you pull an 11.00 run out on your first run with no bar, there's a good chance you'll be sitting the rest of the day out. No tracks 'kick you out' for not having a bar, they just ask you not to come back until you have one, or slow the car down.

OneFast383 02-09-2006 06:50 PM

might put the bar in there just in case

whats the laws about shaved door handles? any nj tracks gonna let me run? or should i plan on swapping on spare doors or ill just put a decal of a handle on the car. lol.

79CamaroDiva 02-09-2006 09:42 PM

i've never heard any rules pertaining to shaved handles. i'll look at it when i get home tomorrow, i have a few rulebooks laying around.

BonzoHansen 02-09-2006 09:44 PM

Theoretically, I think they are illegal on the street.

Jared1970Chevelle 02-09-2006 11:09 PM

shaved door handles are illegal on the street...under 11.50 or 12 not suree i think you also need the ON/OFF switch on the back so tech and safety can shut the car off from outside....

ps. we should set something up for 1st day at island and englishtown..ill bring a sun tent and some hotdogs for my hibatchi grill....we can also advertise the forum....lemme know lata

You need a battery kill switch anytime the battery has moved from it's stock location.

the word on shaved door handles is yes, you can race with them. as per Island Dragway Track Manager... aka. Dad ;)

Koll 02-10-2006 06:08 PM

Supras are crewed.

Also, what if I cross the beams. Come to a stop (or a slow roll) and then just hammer it 4 seconds later making my 9.50 car a 13.50 car?

theoretically thats allowed, just dont go over 135. cause we all know you're hiding a 9 second car in you're back pocket :)

Do you have to leave the windows down? That is why they are not street legal, rescuers can not get you out fast enough.

V 02-10-2006 11:22 PM

79camarodiva.. cool, thanks, my car with shaved door handles is the 87 monte SS, just a rebuilt 350tpi motor, nothing crazy. I just wanna run it for the hell of it but id rather not have to do anything about the doors.

i think in an emergency, they dont car about handles, they just break the glass. my friend who was a firefighter would tell me all the time in car wrecks theyd just smash windows and pull people out that way or use the jaws of life, lack of door handles would never stop him. lol. My girlfriend drives the car and her dad is a cop, he never said a word about it and i made sure everything was basically legal(catalytic convertor, etc) even the private inspection guy thought it was cool, didnt say it was illegal.

79CamaroDiva 02-10-2006 11:36 PM

yeah, what smokingss said. In an emergency, windows don't matter, theyll just break them. No, you can never leave your windows down during a race.

Oddball 02-11-2006 12:19 PM

So if you are bringing a new car to the track how do you know if you need that equipment until you actually run? :-)
