my brother + the olympics

we all know that every 4 years we get to be subjected to a bunch of sports that we dont' care about and some really poorly played hockey. many of you also realize that my brother is....well....odd(to say the least)
my brother has found a new "sport" to keep him glued to the screen for hours on end. it is called curling(sp?)
for those of you who have not been subjected to....i mean...discovered the joys of this amazing "sport", i will explain.
basically grab about 5 kids from the short bus, give them a bunch of rocks, some brooms(i am not kidding), and some ice to play on. now make a game that resembles shuffle board.
there is a bullseye drawn on one end of the ice and they have to slide the rocks into it. whoever is closer to the center gets the points. it is hard to imagine that anyone can stand the excitement, but just try to comprehend the possibility.
basically what i am looking at is a cheap rip off of shuffleboard that was invented in some country that sucks so bad that they couldn't afford a ball or puck to play with.
god i can't wait until this **** is over and everyone starts talking about racing season like good americans should.

Savage_Messiah 02-14-2006 05:10 PM

Hasn't that been around since at least the 50s or something???

You're old enough to remember ;)

Brando56894 02-14-2006 05:26 PM

yea they had it on one time in the cafateria here at school me and my friend were watching it and were like wtf?? we couldnt figure it out to save our asses. i think the crazy bastards in england invented it...

Tru2Chevy 02-14-2006 05:36 PM

Curling is fun to watch, for about 30 seconds. Then it's just boring/pointless.

Sounds like somebody's jealous that they got rid of the men's pair figure skating!
:gay: :supergay: :gheyfigh:

camaro2you 02-14-2006 06:16 PM

i saw some of that **** on tv this morning suprisingly i was glued because i was trying to figure out wtf it was lol. damn i cant wait for racing season to fire up. ah i can't wait for that racing fuel and rubber smell on a nice warm day. haha

Frosty 02-14-2006 06:26 PM

I don't mind curling. It's better than figure skating  Plus it's a good filler so when the USA hockey teams chokes on a fat one I have something else to watch lol

enRo 02-14-2006 07:49 PM

Its just like watching the elephants and the **** sweeper at the end of the Rocky & Bulwinkle cartoon. :threadsu:

They just had the mens solo figure skating on. I don't mind men figure skating when there is a woman on the ice next to them...

BUT

When its just one guy, in gay ass costumes, prancing around..... it makes me wanna do more interesting things, such as stab my ears with pencils.

Am I the only one here who actually likes the olympics? When I was younger I would watch them whenever I could, record the events I would miss for whatever reason but wanted to see. Now I don't have time to watch them as much as I'd like, but I do really enjoy most of the events. However.. I saw the curling tonight while I was out, and uhh.. yeah, thats a real active sport there.. :rollseye:

Savage_Messiah 02-14-2006 10:21 PM

I used to like them... now, blah.

NHRA> Olympics 'nuff said

Tru2Chevy 02-15-2006 10:30 AM

I still enjoy the olympics. My gf and I were making fun of the male figure skaters last night :)

The Olympics are a joke now. Too many professional athletes competing. If you're a professional that gets paid to do that sport and gets paid to train at it, you shouldn't be in the Olympics. Baaaaahhhhh, don't get me started!

What if they are a professional athlete but competing in the olympics in a different sport. Isn't there a speed skater on the US team who is heading to the NFL?

That's not what I'm referring to. But I guess if your other career pays for your training in a 2nd sport then I wouldn't want to see that person compete either. It's the professional money that tilts the scales. Pro's in the Olympics has just turned it into the World Wide All Star Competition. But like everything else, the Olympics are all about $$$ or they wouldn't even exist in this day and age. I miss the American ameteurs competing.

NJSPEEDER 02-15-2006 05:58 PM

the olympics have turned into a tard fest. anyone can basically play for any country they want as long as you can find it on the map. japan's hockey team has 18 canadian citizens and 4 americans, italy is the same way.
if they got back to the basics of no professional athletes and playing for the country you live in then ti woudl be better. i think america is the one that killed it when the whole dream team deal was started to win basketball golds.

funny how T/F was having problems in the right(?) lane and F/C was having problems in the left(?) lane. i may have it confused. but yea they said like 100 feet out the track was coming apart:rofl: force almost had it on his frist run, he was off like .004 or somthing like that. o well the 26th on espn is round 2

********, nothing shows that US>* then Michael Jordan stuffing it on some 5'8" Polish guy's head.
Dream Team was sweeeeeeeeet!! I remember the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, that was awesome. I dont think there was another Olympics like that where I really wanted to watch.

V 02-16-2006 04:45 PM

..the womens USA curling team is pretty cute, lol.

Jclt12003 02-16-2006 04:55 PM

Olyimpics=boring LoL i can't stand to watch such a boring event. The music stinks LoL and thats about it.

Tsar 02-16-2006 06:39 PM

poorly played hockey? sure there are teams like italy, germany and kazahstan that dont deserve to be there but other teams are pretty awesome. ohh and dont be sad just because you havent won gold in hockey since 1980....

bitchincamaro 02-16-2006 06:59 PM

some of the olymipic events are cool. i was watching the moguls with the 2 jumps in the run, it was cool. the downhills are impressive too. they are really fast. that closest comparable feeling i ever had was riding a motorcylce at those speeds, and would never think of laying it down through turns, and these people are doing it on skis on ice and snow. i give credit where its due, and dont care enough to actually dislike any of it. if these people are competing internationally, they worked hard and have dedicated a good portion of thier lives to something they love. thats pretty impressive to me.
