cross member

theres a black cross member that bolts on right by the S pipe or I pipe (i forget where exactly) that i took off when i was doing my exhaust, to put it back on id have to change one of the clamps out and put the nasty ass old rusted band clamp on there. i was just wondering is it really necessary to put it back on? my brother said that it helps keep the frame from bending or something, i would think it would be there to support part of the exhaust. just wondering if i should put it back on today or not...

i believe its called the g load brace, or tunnel brace, dunno if its "needed" for a v6...but it doesnt hurt to have back on.

The only thing that was attached to the exhaust on Little Gs car was the brace that is attached to the trans mount.

this wasnt attached to the exhaust so to speak, it like bolts under it and has a square hole in it for where the band clamp would go through it. ill take a pic of it if i think about it

yeah, thats a tunnel brace. dont worry about putting it back on if its too much trouble. you're not making enough power to need something like that, and even if you were, that stamped piece of metal wouldn't do much anyway.

Brando56894 02-19-2006 05:15 PM

yea its sort of a pain in the ass to put back on since id have to make the jack roll on my stone driveway, jack the bitch up, take off the exhaust clamp, put the old rusty ass one on, tighten that bitch up, then put the tunnel brace in the right place and screw it in. too much work for something that i dont really need ATM. when we took it off, my brother was like make sure you put that back on soon, and dont rip your car w/o it on. just wanted your opinon on it. ps two words= Weight Reduction! :D thing weighs atleast 5-10 lbs

Now that you have that off, you can grab a torque arm that mounts up in place of it. Better leverage and less strain on your trans. tailhousing. It's all good....

the torque arm bolts in place of where that tunnel brace went?

hmmm, i just might have to do that with the money i get from the laptop

Yea, Little G has one on his car that mounts there. See here:

You could also install a drive shaft loop in place of that stamped peice. It will add more support ( made from tube steel) to the car while giving you some extra protection, that are made to clear larger exhaust pipes as well.

LG motorsports etc make them.
